Guest guest
Avoid multivitamins with iodine and don't take extra zinc. The ratio of zinc to copper necessary for proper thyroid function is 8:1. Most hyperthyroid are already out of balance and have too much zinc. Adding copper to restore the ratio can help, and you can find more info on this at www.ithyroid.com Iodine in amounts greater than 150 mcg daily is known to trigger autoimmune thyroid disease and worsen symptoms in hyperthryoidism. The average American diet provides 300-700 mcg daily so lowering dietary iodine is beneficial. Many multivitamins contain 75-150 mcg, which is the MDR, but with all the iodine present in the American diet, few people need supplemental iodine. Guest guest
Hi you really do not want to be taking anything with iodine in it, as it 'feeds' the thyroid gland. There are many specific supplements on the market that contain only the vitamins that you actually want to put in your body. > Does anyone know if there are specific vitamins, minerals, or herbal > supplements that people with Graves Disease or hyperthyroidism should > avoid? Guest guest
I don't know about any one else, but over that past few years I have developed many drug alergies and sensitivities-specifically to alot of anitbiotics. Drs. always hate when I'm sick as it is difficult to " hit " the right antibiotic as well as get one that I don't have problems with. I agree with the person who said " allergies " seem to be a problem. And once I contract an illness (ex. cold, or virus) it takes forever to get the entire bug out of my system. Guest guest
when I was really hyper, if I ate garlic (or onions or chocolate, etc etc) I would feel even more hyper for awhile. Which was too bad because I used to eat chocolate almost everyday and I didn't know how to cook without garlic - it took awhile to replace garlic with other yummy herbs. Guest guest
Garlic, onions, and shallots are the mainstay of my diet. I can't imagine not being able to tolerate them! Never had any trouble. I appreciate chocolate - the darker the better -- but it's not something I crave or eat on a regular basis. But when I do, I never noticed any repercussions. We truly are all different. The only thing that noticeably affects my " hyperness " that I ingest is alcohol. No tolerance for it any more. Holly Re: vitamins > > LIfe without garlic? No way! Guest guest
I was taking a multi vitamin, an iron, a folic and b-12 and my doc added the prenantal to all those and I even asked him " do I take ALL those " and he said " yes " ... Other than the vitamin intake and making sure we eat enough we are really no different carrying a baby than any other woman. Be careful of the sugar test though, i could make you dump. Ask the group about this, I haven't been asked yet but read not to do it and ask for some other type test. Guest guest
I will warn you to make sure you have your levels checked. Too much of these vitamins can make you ill. And since everyone is different, you should not take what someone else is taking just because they are taking it. If so you may end up overdosing your system with too much of one vitamin. I took ONE prenatal a day when I was pregnant the first time and that was enough for me. Everything was in the positive range. No problems with any levels. All of that would have been too much for me. So please talk to YOUR doctor about what is appropriate for you. Rasley mailto: drasley@... Guest guest
This is just my opinion but as long as you are getting them everyday then I don't think it matters when you get them in. I usually take my multi, iron, B12 and folic acid in the morning and my calcium at night as my surgeon tolod me not to takt the iron and calcium together. Hope this helps. Guest guest
: Brewster has the answer for you check out " activejoints.com " Vitamins A long time ago, there was discussion on this list about finding good multi-vitamins that did not contain any Chromium, since we're probably getting Chromium from our M-o-M implant(s). I haven't been able to find the messages in the archives - can anyone suggest any brands they have found that do not contain Chromium? Guest guest
I also could not find that information about vitamins which do not contain Chromium from the website. Already get too much Chromium from the sport drinks I consume everyday which typically have 200 mcg. of Chromium. All my favorite drinks have this mineral. Thanks for raising the issue. r/BHR De Smet Feb 3rd, 04 > : > > Good suggestion. I've poked around 's site but I still don't > find it. Can you give me a pointer? Guest guest
I spoke about this a while ago and found a multi-vitamin without chromium at the General Nutrition Centers(GNC). You can look it up online and review the vitamin and mineral content by going to their website. It's called, " Multi-Gel " . However, I only take one a day because of the Vitamin A content which can compromise the density of your bones. Hope this helps.
