First, I think it is important to put " success " into perspective. According to my surgeon, Dr. Hess, it is practically impossible to stay " really fat " after this surgery. Now, a few have had to have ds revision. But, this is a very few. Furthermore, you will notice that when there is a problem with the amount of weight loss, the ds surgeons look for a problem with the procedure (related to that person) as opposed to looking at the patient as a failure or noncompliant! I think this is a wonderful thing about ds surgeons is that they consider the procedure a failure not the patient. Back to the keeping " success " in perspective. I have always tried to think of my procedure's success not only in terms or what I have lost, but what I did not continue to gain. I have lost 102 pounds. However, I started at 267 and felt I had the potential to be 300-350. Therefore, the surgery has netted me to be up to 180 pounds lighter than I would have been. I think it is important to think of success as being healthier and feeling better, not to be thin. Sure the physcial appearance we accomplish is a GREAT by product, but what really matters is being more healthy and feeling better. JMHO Dawn Dr. Hess, Bowling Green, OH BPD/DS www.duodenalswitch.com 267 to 165 size 22 to size 10 have made size goal, weight goal may need to be adjusted. no more high blood pressure, sore feet, or dieting!
