Guest guest
Go in and take charge. Be armed with literature and be able to lay out all the diets and regimens you've followed that failed. Make sure your dr. knows you have researched WLS and know the risks and are fully informed. Don't ask, tell him that based on all this you have decided that WLS is the way to go before you get any worse. Good luck! Mickyco-owner KoalityKare "Quality childcare isn't expensive. I have no idea how to raise the WLS topic other than just saying, "I want WLS and I'd like a referral please. Thank you."Does anyone have any advice or tips on how to raise the subject? Or, quick retorts to any stock-standard PCP replies to the question? Thanks,-j----------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
I was nervous as well when I brought it up to my docotr. However, he surprised me, he was very sensitive to the subject and told me he had heard of successes and unsuccessful people who had had the surgery. I also had to bring it up to my OB/GYN recently and he was just as understanding. Don't be afraid! They have heard it before! And what I realized was that even though they actually never mentioned my weight because I've always been healthy, they are aware and concerned about it. It'll be ok, just start out by telling him/her that you have been doing research on weight loss surgery and how do they feel about the subject? Go from there. Good Luck!! Guest guest
I raised the subject with my PCP, my knees were hurting and I was having trouble walking. Since my knee pain is related to my weight she told me I needed to lose weight or I would be facing knee replacement surgery, that was my in. I started to recap the medications that did not work Phen Fen, Meridian, Olastat etc. Since she prescribed them to me she understood. I told her I though it was time I started exploring weight loss surgery, she agreed and has been very supportive ever since. Teri
