Guest guest
Jen, It's hard to know what's what on the red bar. Let me take a picture of Darbi's bar and you can compare to that. The degree mark should be in the front of the bar, in the midline of the bolt hole. It's hard to explain - but you'll see the mark Angel made on Darbi's bar for me when I send the pic. Do you want me to send it directly to you or to the CFPics list? I also have to install the software for my camera first (new hard drive again - no software on here anymore! no pictures either - I lost quite a few!). So give me some time. Guest guest
Jen, was the left foot turned out at 70 degrees? If so, go to the following link and if you scroll down, you see some pictures of a FAB set up for LCF with the correct settings. You can sort of 'eye' it to set the bar back up (that's what I had to do with Owen's when we first got the bar because it hadn't been set up properly " . http://pages.ivillage.com/ponseti_links/id9.html Hope this helps1 Daiga and Owen, 02/04/03 Unilateral LCF, FAB 14/24 > I just picked Livie up from daycare and her brace came apart today! > The screw on the bottom of the shoe came loose and she (being almost > three) took it completely out. Guest guest
Jen- The easiest way to eye ball it is to put the shoe back on to the bar to what you think is approx 70 degrees. Then look to see if the little screw toward the ankle that holds the plate to the shoe is visable. If you hold the shoes upside down so you are looking at the back of the bar you should only be able to see half of the little screw. If you see the whole screw in that position then you need to rotate it out more. Half of the screw will be covered by the bar if you have the shoe at 70 degree rotation. If it isn't you don't have it rotated out enough. Another clue is too pretend like you see a visiable line going from the center of the bar out to the toe of the shoe the point it end up should be the 30 mark. Hope this makes sense! > >Reply-To: nosurgery4clubfoot >To: nosurgery4clubfoot >Subject: Help!!! >Date: Wed, 22 Sep 2004 21:21:15 -0000 > >I just picked Livie up from daycare and her brace came apart today! >The screw on the bottom of the shoe came loose and she (being almost >three) took it completely out. Guest guest
Thank you all so much for your suggestions. I finally realized that I actually have photos of Olivia's brace and some pretty close up ones that I just took recently to send to Dr. P. None of them was close enough to see the degree markings in the photo, but I was able to " eyeball " where to set it at. I did find an interesting thing though, I think that her shoe is actually set at more than 70 degrees. In all the photos that I have from when she was younger I can see half that screw you are talking about , but in the more recent ones (since her relapse), it is completely under the bar. It was set up in Iowa and checked by Dr. Ponseti, so I'm sure it was where he wanted it to be, but it surprised me that it is turned out farther now. I hadn't noticed that before. I also remembered that awhile back that particular screw (under the bar) had come loose slightly and I had a heck of a time tightening it back up because it was under the bar. I didn't want to just take her shoe off and then tighten it because I didn't want to screw up the external rotation, so I tightened it as well as possible with a really skinny screwdriver that I layed on its side. I also failed to notice then that the markings were gone. If I had noticed, I would have put them back and NOT had this problem! lol I also noticed tonight that there are degree markings on the tools that they gave us. I wonder if you can use those to help set the proper degrees? We'll be back in Iowa in November and I'm asking for a new bar because Livie has been exceptionally hard on this one since she doesn't nap anymore, but still wears it two hours in the afternoon and 14 hours overnight. She has completely worn away the paint on the bottom of the bar and the shoe plates have deep grooves in the edges from her walking on them. I'm also going to ask for a lesson in setting it to the proper degrees. She's going to be in the FAB for at least another year so I envision just more of the same kinds of problems. I want to be better equipped to handle it next time! Thanks so much for all the help!! Guest guest
Kori, I would love to see that photo when you get the chance. Either directly to me or at CFPics is fine! Thanks for the help, Jen Re: Help!!! Guest guest
Thanks Daiga! That is exactly what Livie's brace used to look like, but if you read my message to , I think she's actually set out a little more than 70. I got out some recent pics that I had of Livie and " eyeballed " it back as best I could. She's sleeping peacefully, so it must not be hurting her. I'll have to keep a close eye out in the next few days for blisters though, I think! Jen & Livie Re: Help!!! Jen, was the left foot turned out at 70 degrees? Guest guest
ugh! I've been looking for my CD all afternoon. I feel so bad. I have a good pic for you. I will finalize the CD and then send it (it takes 13mb to finalize it - but I can't read it till it's finalized) since I can't find the CD. Stupid! When you see it you'll know what I'm talking about but for now imagine this: Put the shoe on the bar so that it is pointed straight forward. So that it's actually 90 degrees to the bar itself (the toes pointing forward, if you pointed the shoe so the toes pointed to the side the shoe would be parallel to the bar, this isn't what I want you to do - does that make sense?). If you imagine where the center of the shoe would be when it's pointing straight to the front, that's where you can take a sharpie and mark on the bar itself. Imagine where the center of the hole is and that's where you put the mark on the front of the bar. Then, when you look at the degree markings on the sole plate you can line that mark up to the 70 degree mark. I have to get kids into bed, but I will try to get that picture sent as soon as I can. gotta run... the're wrestling on the floor at my feet instead of brushing their teeth... Guest guest
I just realized something, conversely, if you mark the ends of the bar in the center of the bar at the tip you can then set the sole plate at 30 degreees. that might be easier... Guest guest
I just realized something, conversely, if you mark the ends of the bar in the center of the bar at the tip you can then set the sole plate at 30 degreees. that might be easier... Guest guest
sorry to hear that you are having such a difficult time with this. Maybe try to plan out your meals the day before and only allow yourself that amount of food. Maybe by seeing what you eat for the day it might help. This is of course only my suggestion I haven't had to deal with this issue quite yet but sure I will. I hope you get some ideas from the nutritionist also that you might be able to share with the rest of us too. Keep your head high reflect on where you have come from and don't beat yourself up too bad.. You've done a great job so far. Rose Diane Duenas wrote: Ok I know this is all up to me. Guest guest
I thought I couldn't get access yesterday, but I just needed to sign in to Yahoo groups. On any email from PSC_support it says " visit your group " on the right hand side. It will take you to the group but doesn't allow you access. At the top of the screen, there is a " sign in " link. click on that and it will direct you to a place where can enter your user ID and password. There is a link if you've forgotten your user ID or password. Good luck. Ian Does anyone know why I cannot get access to the group any longer? I still get the posts sent to my email address, but I can not get on the actual website. PSC support is no longer listed in my yahoo groups and it says that I have to join to do anything on the site, although I've been a member since 2001. Help, please. I'm frustrated as I wanted to research some old posts.
