Guest guest
Hi all-- I went to the Mayo clinic in Rochester Minnesota yesterday for a check up. I knew my sarc was in a flare. I saw my Rheumy and he ordered me a tapering dose of prednisone. So I start with 30 mgs for a week, then go down by 5 a week. He also discussed changing my meds ( I am on imuran 225 mg / day) and I asked about Methotrexate, and he told me, that is not a good choice for me, as it is very hard on the liver. He wanted to get my legs under control before doing anything like that, so hopefully the pred will help. Then I go to my Dermatologist, and she takes one look at my legs and says that my sarc is definately in a flare. She called the rheumy and conferred with him. They thought about using plaquinil, but aren't gonna just yet. Actually I am not sure she knows what to do with me. She said I have Venous stasis ulcers. As far as the sores on my legs, she wanted me to stay up there yesterday and be admitted to the hospital on a outpatient basis and have my legs wrapped with a wet dressing and compression to hopefully help them. I had a leg doppler done in September and I have Moderate venous insuffiency. Well I didnt take any clothes or my CPAP machine or anything, as I wasnt planning on staying up there, I live 3 hours from there. Her nurse did some checking and I could have rented one but it was gonna cost $250 / week to rent, so I told her that I could drive home and back for that amount of money. ( I think I made her mad at me ROFL ) So, I have to go back up the the Mayo on March 1, be admitted on a outpatient basis and have my legs treated. I will be up there at least 3 days depending on if the compression and wet dressings help. So for the rest of this week and next, she put me on a antibiotic, as my legs are severly infected, she put me on triamcinolone cream, and nizoral cream. and she did some blood work so she can put me on i think it was diflucan, but she needed to know if my liver could metabolize it. So I am a bit scared, as I worked in a nursing home, and I remember all those elderly people who had this same thing, and the sores that I used to have to treat on their legs. It scares me. I don't wanna be like them. But I am... MAN I LOVE THIS @$ & #)@ing disease. Ok that is enough for now. I AM FRUSTRATED AND SCARED!!! from Iowa.
