Guest guest
For those of you with dry skin that can be most trouble some here is a trick my allergist told me & I swear it does work!after your regular bath clean & rinse VERY well your bath tub. Next fill 1/2 full with warm water. To that add 1/2 cup of non Iodized table salt. Soak for 15 to 20 min.s.When you get out of the tub do NOT dry off with towel. Instead, put a small amount of preservitive free liquid cooking oil in the palm of your hands & rub the water droplets into your skin.Yeah, I know it sounds Nuts as all get out. I snickered up my sleeve till I tried it & found out how effective it is. I recommend doing this 2 times a week.It wont help with phantom itching but it should cut down alot of the skin irritations due to dryness. Yes, I do know what you are talking about. I too have had phantom itching & worse for me was the Burning sensations. I have sat & scratched a spot for no other reason than the itch was driving me till it was bruised & raw. It's a pain in the backside when you Know that it can't be as real as it feels huh?Strange as it may seem I noticed sence I have been blessed with this Sarc. that my skin is not the same. It is dry, leathery & thick in places like my feet but thin & like crap paper on my arms.>> In a message dated 1/25/06 8:07:43 AM Pacific Standard Time, > mosaicgirl1@y... writes:> > > > Does anyone have phantom itching - but no sores? Guest guest
I know it sounds gross....but in the military (according to my uncle) they have the men pee on their feet to help with athletes feet. Guest guest
Reading all these posts about itching has got me scratching everythere! Well, and reading an article in the local paper about bedbugs didn't help, especially the enlarged photo. I would run my fingernails over my eyelidsRose, I had this last year, I thought it was just allergies, it drove me crazy, I still get it a little, and get no relief, until I close my eyes for the night and go to sleep. Wow, I really thought this was allergies?? duh, me :-) Marla Terri, the only itching I have is where I have neuropathy--the forward half of my feet (just the bottoms) & one of my fingers. I can usually ignore itching from mosquito bites, etc., but this drives my crazy! It's like the feeling you get when your face has been numbed for dental work & the numbness is about half gone. It itches, but scratching doesn't bring any relief. I'm sure it's part of the sarc, because the first symptom I had of systemic involvement was intense itching of my eyes that lasted several days. I would run my fingernails over my eyelids & was tempted to use my hairbrush. Nothing helped, & meanwhile I got the fatigue, muscle weakness, etc. The eye itching gradually subsided & never came back. Guest guest
Fortunately the grandkids are teenagers & haven't brought me a bunch of the little " friends " down to spend the night on my pillows for quite a few years. My daughter finally figured out who they kept catching them from & they were on the no sleep over list until you Nix. grannylunatic@... __________________________________________________
Guest guest
The more I itch, the more I scratch, and nightime is the worst....so more itching means less sleep and more fatigue. I find that when I am in that cycle, itch, no-sleep, it makes the itching worse because mentallly I can't deal with it, however, if I take Ambien CR, it knocks me out and lets me get precious sleep, which in turn, helps me to cope with the itching a wee bit better during the day. (note, wee-bit) My brother in law works for a antimicrobial company (well, he OWNS it). They worked with a textile mill that developed this silk under garments that are supposed to alleviate itching. He gave them to me to test out. Yesterday he asked about them. I was honest...they didn't stop the itching, but they did have some soothing affects. I like to wear them under weaters because sweaters drive me bonkers! Cindy Baudoux-Northrup

Guest guest
Hi Cindy, Well, I've been there and done that, the itching, that is. I recieved a liver transplant May 2007. The itching stopped completely after transplant. I do however have some ideas for you since I tried just about every thing from lotions to medication and lastly the light box therapy (high intensity UV prescribed by my dermatologist) which gave me the most relief from the puritis. The many medications I tried gave zero relief. The anti-itch lotions with menthol worked only temporarily. The best lotion was made by Aveeno and was described as an anti-itch. Hpoe that this helps and you get some relief. Until I got severely ill the itching was by far the worst part of my PSC and the ultimate liver failure. Guest guest
I'll be seeing my brother in law Christmas Day and I will find out how to get those. If they are still in the testing mode, he might give me some to have others with PSC try them. If I can get them I will need to know the size S, M or L...but I will keep you posted on what he says. Guest guest
Actually for me I have had severe itching since early Jan 09. I did have my labs drawn on Jan 6th and wound up with all of my bilirubins being up, but my total was only 1.2. I was itching but my eyes (which usually turn yellow first) were not even yellow at all. So I actually had the itching bad enough that my GI put me back on cholestrymine 2x per day. Plus he gave me Atarax (sp?) to help control my itching. It has almost completely gone away. And when I had my blood rechecked on Jan 19th, all of my labs that were high had come back down, closer to normal range. Good luck with the itching, oh I found a lotion that helps quite a bit with itching. It is called Sarna, and I found it at Walgreens Best of luck with everything, Beth B Thornton, CO

Guest guest
My husband had bloodwork done yesterday and the nurse called today to say that the bilirubin is 3.2 and the other liver numbers are high normal for him. His regular doctor is gone for the week but another doctor in the office wants him to have an ERCP done as soon as possible. Unfortunately it isn't until Feb 25. I do also believe that my husband has small duct psc. His regular doctor has been very proactive so I am concerned that he won't respond well to the other doctor jumping on this so quickly. We have had a hard time finding a GI that is well educated on psc in our area. wife to Rick Crohn's, PSC, Spondyloarthropathy, Gilbert's > I have a question about itching. Guest guest
, Hi! I hope Rick's doing better today. It sounds to me like he may benefit from seeing his hepatologist. He could be in the start of a cholangitis attack or his bile may be backing up and he needs an ERCP. I'm not a doc, so those are just guesses though! I know you know this, but PSC is just sometimes a monster and doesn't have much rhyme or reason as to what it does when. Hang in there!
