Guest guest Posted June 9, 2006 Report Share Posted June 9, 2006 Ruth, I am so glad you are able to be a grandmother and push your granddaughter in the swing and get you nails polished. I can relate. For so long my days were empty and lonely, but when our grandson came to live with us it gave me a renewed since of joy and a reason to get up in the morning. I would watch him before the school bus picked him up. I would wait on the school bus to drop him off. I would prepare his afternoon snack and play with him and watch Spiderman DVD until he was all tuckered out. By then him mother was on her way home. But the few hours we shared were very special. We would water the garden together. He loved that. He would take one of my canes and challenge me to a sword match with the canes. We would play ball and wrestle together. And he loved watching music videos of Keys! He does have taste at such a young age. So, you see I can relate. I am glad to hear of your experiences to. But the sweetest thing was when he would call me Papa, fall asleep in my arms while rocking in the recliner and giving my a kiss goodnight. Nothing was more precious to me than to hear him say "Papa." And I would respond by saying, "Yes, grandson." This is the same way my grandfather responded to me when I would call him. I miss hearing my granddaddy saying, "Yes, grandson." He said it with such affection and meaning. It was like he was saying, I love you, what do you need, I am here for you.
