Hi Matt,

Thank you for your openess and response. I know exactly how you

feel. There was a time in my life that I was so overwhelmed with

doctor appointments that I just stop seeing everybody until I could

catch my breath from all that was going on and happening in my life.

But to answer you question, I was referring to encouraging each other

to recall stronger times in our lives where we've had to overcome

obstacles and did it with great success.

Let me give you an example.

When I was 9 years old my mother left me and my siblings with

relatives and moved to California with relatives to start a new

beginning with the hope of sending for us later after she found work

and setteled. Needless to say we were traumatized by this decision.

But the bottom line is, I made it through it all. I was able to look

back at my life and recall the things that gave me strenght, hope,

promise, encouragement and feelings of progress and accomplishment

not to mention independence and draw on those things even at my

current age of 46 and tell myself the same things that sustained me

then can and will sustain me now. My job is to pick myself up and

develop the same self preserving attitude that I developed when I was

9 years of age. I carried this mentality to my teen years and my

college years and my yound adult life. But I have never tried to

draw on it like I am doing now.

Going through those traumatic years without my Mom taught several

lessons: 1. The world did not owe me anything. 2. Some have much

harder than I do. 3.I developed independence, determination to

succeed and drive. 4. I developed a toughness to succeed. 5. I

developed a attitude of discipline, " do it right the first time and

be through with it " was my philosophy at age 10.

I can go on with others but I hope you get my point.

The point is to reflect on times of overcoming adversity and replace

that same attitude with the current one you have today. Look back

and visualize and see how you were successful in overcoming your

challenges and then apply this same attitude and tenacity to our

situation today as well deal with this trying illness.

Got me?
