I have a question for everyone that has had the DS. I have heard that you

get an epideral. Is that the same in the open and the lap or just for the

open? I am just curious as I had an epidural with the delivery of my son

and they kept pumping it into me and it didn't do any good! Thanks, Stefany

Hi, Stefany!

I had open surgery on a Monday morning, first surgery scheduled that

day in the O.R. I had my epidural placed in the O.R. rather than the

pain clinic the afternoon before, as is usually done. They did not

sedate me enough and it hurt so much I was crying and yelling while

they were putting it in. But it totally relieved the pain after

surgery. So I am glad I had it put in. Once they took it out on the

third day after surgery, the pain relief wore off after a few hours.

Then I *really* got to know just how much it had been helping me. I

had to have a Morphine PCA pump subsequently-- oral meds just didn't

take care of my post op pain at that time. And the epidural was

controlling it completely! So i am a big advocate of the epidural.

It has to be very precisely placed, however, or you won't get relief

from it.

Stefany:

My initial surgery was lap and I had an epidural. Joy's was open and she

also had an epidural. Every surgeon has different methods and approaches

pain management differently. Some surgeons do not use the epidural but many

do. If you have had a problem with an epidural before there are two very

likely possibilities. First, it may not have been places correctly. That

could make a world of difference. Second, it just may not work for you and

in that case you need to let your surgeon know. There are all sorts of pain

management schemes available.

Regards.

WHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT?

If they don't knock me out I am changin my mind

dangit!!!

So I am a whimp, I will be the first to admit that. I

had surgery with an epideral (sp) with an arthoscopic

knee surgery and it was the most unbelievable

experience, it didn't hurt, but I sooooooooooooooooo

cannot be awake for this stuff. I couldn't even

handle being awake to have my teeth pulled.
