Well, you could do what the ASD kids do - and start him on like 1/8th or 1/4 teaspoon and work up slowly from there. And start off fermenting the yogurt for like 28 hours instead of 24. He might be able to handle it - and if he does, the SCD healing is magnified by the yogurt probiotics quite a lot. Mara

She did fine with goat milk yogurt. To add in extra calories we used 500 cal. smoothies once or twice a day. Mix your choice of fruit, diluted juice, yogurt (optional) avocado- optional honey/coconut oil - ice if desired. All sorts of options. Nut butters are good for calories too. Add olive oil or butter to veggies to add in calories. Diane D.
Guest guest
Oh yeah, we do smoothies, almond butter brownies, butter and honey on carrots and everything I can think of. He stopped losing weight, but it's hard to gain while having 2-1/2 hour football practices and PE daily. All his friends eat enourmous amounts of sandwiches, cookies, chips, candy, pop, slurpees and all kinds of stuff that would make most people get huge, but they maintain their weight on that. It's a big job to try to get enough calories in him right now. I insist that he eat about a 500+ calorie snack right at bedtime every night. Teenaged boys eat a ton normally, but it's amazing how much they eat when they need to gain weight! I think he ate at least a pound of meatloaf for dinner tonight! Thanks, Liz > To add in extra calories we used 500 cal. smoothies > once or twice a day. Guest guest
Is there anyone on here with UC that has found that they do better on goat milk yogurt, rather than cow milk? Are most people with UC dairy free? I have UC, and I started out with goat yogurt because I was scared of the cow =) Eventually I switched to half and half yogurt, and ohmygosh, it is so much better =) lol the goat is actually still quite good, but you have to drip it for a while so it's not so super watery. After a while on the cow yogurt, I switched back to goat yogurt for a week or so, but didn't notice any changes. Then when I added it back in, still no changes. I also AK tested it, and it made my colon happy (yay) and since I got no reaction from it that I observed, I believed it and now use cow yogurt freely without any problem. The yogurt is the only dairy I use though, no DCCC or cheese. Those might come later..we'll see. Peace =)Alyssa 15 yoUC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)No meds! Guest guest
Marilyn and Alyssa - thanks for the comments. I knew there was a reason that I've always had a rule that no one eats too close to bedtime. With all this desperation I kind of forgot that it isn't really all that good for you. I'll have him eat about an hour or so before. (I should know better, I'm a health teacher!)
