Guest guest
Hi Ann... Our statistics are similar. I a 5'6", and was 261 at orientation. I had to lose down to 235. It was a bit of a struggle for me to do it...but basically, I started with moderation. No snacks. Three meals. Small portions. Increased my water intake. Started walking. With bad knees, it is tough to exercise, I know. But you can get knee braces, or you can get a stationary bike...or elliptical trainer which didn't hurt my knees at all. (I tore both ACLs in my knees in a very bad skiing accident, so I relate.) I tried to incorporate the things I will have to post surgery. No more diet carbonated beverages (or full sugar, for that matter!) I started focusing on protein...making sure that I was getting enough, and making that my priority. Cutting out carbs...meaning bread, sweets, rice, pasta, potatoes, corn, even reducing the amount of fruit I consume. I started writing down every little morcel that went into my mouth. Including little snippets while I cooked...you know, a bite of this, I bite of that. I wanted a clear picture in my head. When I started getting into that pick pick pick mode...I started "unpeeling the onion"...you know, thinking about what was really troubling me...why was I eating more than I really needed. Was I bored? Anxious? Sad? Why did I feel that way? What positive thing could I do (other than eating) to help myself? Typical menu (when I was on top of my game...it took me several months because I was going through a lot of stuff emotionally, and at work, that detracted from my efforts): egg whites with veggies, scrambled. I piece of whole wheat toast, dry. lunch: 1/2 turkey sandwich, on wheat no mayo with a cup of soup...or a salad with chicken or tuna in it (no mayonnaise type dressing...no croutons, no globs of cheese...just a little bit of crumbled bleu or feta cheese as the "treat" in the salad.) Dinner: Healthy choice and a salad. Or a chicken breast and some veggies. And lots of water...like 64 to 96 ounces a day. I weaned myself off of caffeinated coffee. I started using herbal teas to calm me down, like chamomile and peppermint. It was a treat, and it gave me permission to take a few minutes for myself in a ritualistic manner. For me, walking is essential. Even if you can only do a block or so. It really helps. Good luck!!Robynn Baartolotti wrote: My name is Ann and I just got approved on June 16. Guest guest
Welcome Ann I also am going through Fremont. Fremont is the only one that lets you loose your ten percent before orientation. It is a long process, but well worth it. Hang in there. I use the 1200 calorie diet and it worked fine with me. Make sure you drink lots of water. Guest guest
Welcome Ann What worked for me in losing my 10% is journalling. Writing down everything I ate kept me honest. I also did Atkins vs the 1200 cal diet...it just worked better for me. Huggles > My name is Ann and I just got approved on June 16. I trid last year > but got turn down. Guest guest
If your are having problems with your knees, you might want to look in to " Chair Dancing " video (for your exercise). The Kaiser educational section should know where you can order it. Or, you could just try lots of exercise type moves while sitting in a chair. Otherwise, I hear that water arobics are good, too. Good luck! --Sandi > My name is Ann and I just got approved on June 16. I trid last year > but got turn down. Then my keens went out and need to be replaced. > They want me to lose the weight frist. Guest guest
San Diego has something like that. We had 3 appointments on one day (when they paid to fly me down there). I saw the surgeon, the cardiologist (for other's it's an internist) and the psychiatrist, all on one day. That's how Pacific Bariatrics worked. --Sandi > Wow - all of that in one day - I guess I would call it a Marathon too - lol > > LTLJSMOM > > _____ > > From: hollotwomn@c...
