<< The staples are itching, itching, itching. Can anyone give me an

idea as to how I might stop this itching...... It's driving me

crazy............ >>

Your staples might be out by now...but I used something called " Respite "

from Walgreen's Drug Store. It's an anti-itch lotion in a small white

bottle. I've also used another type of anti-itch lotion which is in a white

pump bottle...cannot remember the name right now...it begins with an " S. "

Please try not to use steroids or cortisone because my dermatologist told me

that using those creams actually thin our skin over time and makes us more

prone to skin infections. He suggested Cal-A-Dryl lotion (it now comes in

clear) or even Aveeno or Gold Bond cream. I used a Q-tip to apply the

anti-itch lotion to each staple entry spot. I also made sure that I let it

" air " and sat in a sunspot by a window whenever possible. Dee in MI (MGB

If you still have the hospital tape and bandages on, it is more

likely

the tape. Being allergic to latex or that tape is a common allergy

and that is what made me itch like crazy. If you still have the tape

on, get it off. Wash off all the adhesive. Put bandaids over your

incisions.

Thanks Genz,

I went there and discovered that that is what I originally had thought the

procedure was all about (that's the same info that's in the patient education

manual). Evidently someone out there (who's had the surgery) thinks the

stomach is cauterized, with no staples. I have to admit, though, that I

thought it could be possible when they told me that, as I wasn't too sure

what the manual meant when it said, " ...using multiple firings of the blue

and white loads of the Endo GIA. " LOL

Go to the MGB home page....on the left hand side toward the bottom

you

should see the words OPERATIVE DESCRIPTION...click on that and read what it

has

to say,

then on the left hand side of that page you will see the words MGB PROCEDURE.

This will tell you even more about the staples in the stomach and bowel.

There is

an instrument that Dr. R uses that cuts and seals at the same time but he

also

places the staples in the stomach and bowel. I hope you find the info you're

looking for.

Best Wishes,

Hi Genz,

Yes, thanks! There is no doubt that we will be stapled (but hopefully not

spindled or mutilated-- LOL--never did know why people needed a warning not

to spindle or mutilate. Guess it's kinda like the warning on pillows--you

know, how it's illegal to remove the tag???)

You've got them inside. That's what they use to seal up the two parts of

the stomach before they separate the pouch from the stomach. No, they

don't need to be removed. You don't need to even think about them, so

you don't need to try to figure out which of the staple removers at

Office Max will be needed.
