Hi Beth, and others who ask me what was going on. To the ones who know the story, just delete.

I had my lap DS on 12-3-99 by Dr. Gagner. I was 250 and 5"2.BMI of 46. Now back then I was a light weight and had to talk him into the DS instead of the RNY. They usually only did the DS on the larger BMI. I was so worried that I would lose too much weight with a 100 as he was also giving people who weighed 360lbs the same . Well the first month I was so sick, lost 27 lbs, and was worried I was losing too fast. Boy did things change. I started to lose very slowly. At 7 months out I stopped losing and was at -75lbs. I was told I was on a plateau,I tried every suggestion, did water aerobics 3 days a week, and lifted weighs. I was told I was probably losing but adding muscle weight by my friends, not to worry. Well at one year out, and still on this supposly plateau, I started gaining. I know we have a 18-24 month window, and then can gain back up to 10 lbs, but here I was doing it at a year out. I emailed Dr. Gagner, and he was surprised this was happening. He ordered a small bowel follow thru x-ray, and that showed the problem. My food is staying in my intestines so long, so it is absorbing all the calories. My common channel is not short enough for me even at 100, and Dr. Gagner says he might have to adjust the alimentary limb also. I always had a hard time losing weight and I was down to eating 1100 calories, and still couldn't lose weight the past couple of years, so I believe I should have had a smaller common channel to begin with, NOW, but Dr. Gagner only does the 100 on my size, but now I need a revision, which he will be doing a 75 or 50 on me. I now believe that each person should be looked at separately and their past weight loss patterns. The Doctor who did the x-ray, says my metabolism is very, very slow, that is why the barium wouldn't move thru my small bowel. This is even after doing all this exercise for over a year. I have now gained back 18 lbs and I still have over 2 months until my revision. I must tell you that my stomach is still very small, probably only about 5-6 oz, at 16 months out, which is good, he won't have to to anything with it. I ate right, took all my vitiamins, exercised, but the surgery failed me. I though for over a year it was something I was doing wrong. It is now very hard on me to be gaining weight back. I gave away all my larger clothes, and now my smaller clothes are too small. I never dreamed I would gain this back, and fear by the time I have my revision I will be way up there again. I will have to lose all this weight over again, just like in the past. What really stinks is that I only have a small stomach yet, so I don't eat a whole lot, and still gain. I am sticking to the high protein-eating the same, and gaining.

This only happens in 4-5 percent of people, and that includes those whom loose too much, so please don't worry that this will happen to you. This figure was given to me by my surgeon Dr. Gagner.

I am hoping so bad Dr. Gagner gets a cancellation before June 25, so I can have my revision.

Please all send good luck wishes for me an earlier date, I don't gain all my pre-op surgery weight back by then, and that it works this time for me.

I need to get this weight off as I have Rheumotoid Arthritis, and Sjogren's Syndrome, so my joints are in bad shape, along with my emotional state right now.

Hugs to you all,
