Jeannie,

This could be seizures or it could be symptoms of a stroke, or TIA's. (Transient Ischemic Attacks).

When these happen, you need to get into the er immediately. If it is a stroke or TIA, then they can treat you with a medication called TPA-- that can break up bloodclots and make it so the damage is minimal.

The family response of "mom does this, she'll be ok"-- is dangerous. If you get into the er immediately - THEY CALL IT THE 'GOLDEN HOUR'-- then you stand a VERY GOOD CHANCE OF MAKING SURE THERE IS NO PERMANENT DAMAGE.

I'm glad your husband is making you get into the doc's tomorrow, but honestly- you need to be in the hospital where they can do the tests as these episodes are happening.

I totally understand your fright. You have a right, and a reason to be scared. I know that the idea of having something seriously wrong, and loosing that ability to be drive and be somewhat independent is one none of us want to accept. I do understand, and my heart goes out to you.

In the same thought-- the only way you are going to have any control over this is if you get in and get evaluated, so that if there is a way to handle whatever is going on does get treated. To stay at home and "ride it out" is not going to stop the progression, where treatment may very well be available.

Jeannie, you will get thru this. I know that it's scary, even terrifying-- so get in and take the action that you can take. Even if it means being in the hospital for awhile.

Take care,

Thanks so much, Tracie! I never even thought of it possibly being a stroke! Oh my! If it happens between now and my appointment, I'll go to the ER - I promise. I've never heard of TIA's, but I'm going to look up those, too. I honestly don't care about not driving... I just want to be here to see my son grow up and start his own family. Health is way more important. Thank you so much for telling me about this. You are all so wonderful. I don't know what I'd do without you! I'll let you know what the doc says.
