Guest guest
It was so easy to make. I didn't take measurements though. About 1.5 - 2 cupes prunes Enough water to cover the prunes by an inch or so (unless you're using the boiling method, then cover them by about 2 inches) Add prunes and water to a covered pot and put over high heat. Bring to a boil and lower heat to a simmer for 2 hours. Stir occassionaly. *** I forgot my prunes on high and when I walked in the kitchen I heard them boiling away. Thank goodness I caught them before all the water boiled out and they stuck to the bottom. But stewing them was my plan. I only boiled them for about 15 minutes so if you're in a pinch for time, you could try it this way. Just be careful and watch them closely. Even with the lid on, most of the water boiled out. Very carefully add the cooked prunes plus the water to a blender or food processor. I could have used my immersion (stick) blender too. If you are worried about it being hot, let it cool a bit. When using my blender, I take the middle part out of the lid, cover it with a thick towel, and blend. (Love the food network for cooking tips.) You may have to add water as you're blending if the mixture gets too thick. Once completely blended, I put them back in the pot and added water until I thought it was the correct drinking consistency. I'm sure this will stay good for at least 2 weeks. It made about 2 quarts of prune juice. I'm drinking 1 cup of this each morning on an emmpty stomach. The first 2 days I had BMs within 2 hours of drinking it. The last 2 days I have had a BM. But, that's how it always is with me. C protocols don't really work on me. I've tried EVERYTHING... Elaine's C protocol (minus muffins cause I can't eat nut flours), magnesium, mirilax, and prunes. Prunes seem to be the only thing that don't cause me intestinal discomfort. If I take too much magnesium or mirilax the C gets worse and I have this terrible discomfort in my gut until I finally have a very water and huge BM. I've tried varying amounts of both over the last 20 months. So, I stick with prunes. I feel much better making my own prunes and it's a heck of a lot cheaper than purchasing prune juice. I bought the R W Knudsen (sp) which wasn't the Just Juice line, but the lid said no sugar added. It was $6 for 4 cups. I made 8 cups for less than a $1.
