- There is actually quite a bit of data in the CAWHS that bears on

this issue, particularly regarding use of health services in Mexico by

migrant and/or immigrant workers. For example, we asked when was the most

recent health visit, as well as where. As I recall a very substantial

fraction of those who reported a medical visit within the previous two

years indicated that they had gone to Mexico for that visit. Further, the

fraction was highest for subjects who were residing relatively close to the

border at the time of the interview (Mecca and Vista sites). As yet, these

and related items from the CAWHS have not been analyzed, especially as

regards the health status indicators of subjects. Since the CAWHS data

includes roughly twice as many subjects as the Binational Health Survey,

and also includes objective, third-party, health status evaluations, it

seems to me that it would be especially valuable to find a way to proceed

with this analysis.

I will have some preliminary data from my research...finding the same

thing in Guanajuato-FL migrants. Many go to MX, many men haven{t been

to doctors in years, use of sobadores is high on both sides of border.

I have also been asking about dental visits, very very very low...like

once or twice in a lifetime.
