Hi ,

Are you also chelating your son? or give him something that is supposed to be

My son currently appears to have the same thing. He has had it for 7 days

and it looks the same as you describe. It also appears after baths. It was

terrible on day one. It appeared to be hives. It is much better now but

still there. We believe it was a reaction to the lamilsol (anti-fungal) he

was on. However, we had also increased his culterelle to twice a day. My

son is a very allergic type kid and appears to be somewhat sensitive to

casein. Maybe it could be from the casein in the culterelle. However, it

was more likely a reaction to the much stronger lamilsol. We have stopped

everything to see what may be causing this.

However, in your child's case it could also be a reaction to a viral

infection. If I'm not mistaken food allergy reactions will generally clear

up by 10 days if the antigen is kept out of blood stream. A viral infection

could stay in the body for weeks. My older son had strep, so my son's rash

could also be viral related. He did test negative for strep. February

always seems to be the viral month.

I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I thought I would post it just

in case! I have heard since this report, that it's Fifths Disease. I'm from

PA, so I have an interest in this.

As students at second school develop rash, investigation deepens

By Marc Schogol and Zlati Meyer

Inquirer Staff Writers

Federal and state environmental investigators are expected in Quakertown

tomorrow to determine what is causing rashes afflicting more than 100

Quakertown students and teachers, forcing the closing of a second elementary

school this week.

Superintendent R. Scanlon said tonight he is closing the Quakertown

Elementary, where eight new cases were reported today. Richland Elementary,

where 80 students and two teachers have reported the mysterious rashes in

recent days, has been closed since Tuesday.

Scanlon said both schools would remain closed for the rest of the week.

Most of the rash reports involve a red, raised outbreak of bumps on faces,

legs, arms and chests. Many students complained of mild itching. ...
