Dear Lynette,

My surgeon does not believe in taking out a perfectly healthy

gallbladder at the time of WLS. My husband has had loose stools and

excessive gas after eating fats and carbs since having his

gallbladder out in December, 2000. Therefore, I didn't want my

gallbladder removed unless it was diseased. I had an abdominal

ultrasound during my preadmission testing and there were no stones to

indicate a gallbladder removal was necessary. If my gallbladder had

stones and/or disease, my surgeon would have removed it at the time

of my DS. I will have to start Actigall (bile thinning medication)

soon and remain on it for 6 months.
