Sharon,

I know someone who is in CA right now having open DS and she is on SSI

disability. Medicare is covering her surgery. I don't know the name of the

surgeon, but I will try to find out and email you. I know the first surgeon

turned her down and she has been waiting a long time to find someone to except

Medicare. There have been others on this list who have had Medicare pay too, so

don't give up hope! I DON'T think Medicare pays 100%, so be prepared to pay a

portion.

Subject: medicare

I just recently learned about DS from a woman I met on

a cruise. I was really excited and got on the

internet to do some research as soon as I got home. I

am disabled due to degenerative disk disease, ruptured

disks and numerous back surgeries. I have always been

obese but between the severe decrease in activity due

to pain and the depression from having no life

anymore, the weight is really adding up. It seemed

the DS surgery was a dream come true. I called a

couple of doctors to make an appointment and both told

me they do not take patients with medicare as a

primary insurance. Does anyone know of someone who

will accept me and my medicare? If I can't find

someone, I will refinance my home to pay for the

procedure but I really don't want to do that.
