Guest guest
Bob's Red Mill now has a dedicated facility for Gluten Free flours. They claim to test random samples. This is helpful for celiacs but not sure how much this would help on SCD. Certainly if Coconut flour is determined in random lots to be free of gluten it might still contain other grains that are GF but not applicable to our diet. The package online shows a GF symbol and therefore they believe there is no contamination from non-GF grains. People who have observed milling, etc. say there is at least a fine cover of grain flour everywhere after each batch. I don't know how there would be any possible testing that could certify that requirement. Additionally, in re/to company verification.....I did find when calling about GF products in the past as a celiac; many companies are unable to certify all ingredients used in a product are safe as GF. Frequently ingredients are from other venders who either do not test or do not/cannot share this information. The responding person on the phone may truly not have this information to give. It can be very frustrating and uncertain at best. How much more difficult to certify something is safe for SCD when there is no single protein, etc. to test for. It seems to be a very "iffy" thing. I'm unsure how this can be reliably done. Not sure I've explained myself well. In addition....when calling about medications, I have found it most helpful to ask to speak to a company "chemist". These people have the real information about what is going into their products and have always been very helpful and good about researching and calling back. And I agree, it is important to re-verify at least yearly....ingredients can change according to price and availability. Gen
