Guest guest
Hi...I run one of the groups here in the Bay Area at Oakland Kaiser. I would suggest calling your local Kaiser, during business hours, and talk to the person who coordinates the conference rooms. Let them know you are starting a patient surgery support group, and ask what weeknights are available for room usage. Once you hammer out the date/time, they will probably have you fill out a form to reserve the room. Be sure to reserve it for the rest of the year on a recurring monthly basis. If your local Kaiser is a clinic as opposed to a hospital, they may not have availability on weeknights. If that is the case, contact your local library. Several in this area allow free usage of rooms, with the only stipulation being that anyone in the general public can attend. I've never had any problems with nosy people showing up in library meetings I've had in the past. As for advertising, hang up signs promoting your meeting at the Kaiser that has the bariatric department. Be sure to only post the signs in approved areas, otherwise Facilities will tear them down. Do a search for online support groups in Oklahoma. Type OSSG-OK or OSSG-Oklahoma in the Yahoo! Groups search field and see if anything comes up. Most newspapers will allow you to place a free listing in the Community section (where they post meeting times for Toastmasters, AA, etc.), so contact them to find out. Finally, talk to the bariatric surgeons or psychologist who is completing the psych evaluations to qualify people for gastric bypass, and ask them to advise patients of your group. Good luck...Feel free to email me if you have any questions. pascha =) -130 lbs. > > I would like some ideas on how to form a local support group for > > anyone who has had bypass surgery. Guest guest
FYI...I found these groups...They all seem to be in the OKC area, but they may be able to point you in the direction of finding people to coordinate with in your area. Follow the link for the search results: http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=wls%20oklahoma&ss=1 > > > I would like some ideas on how to form a local support group for > > > anyone who has had bypass surgery.
