There have been many requests for a gentle yoga class in the east

bay, for Dr. Rabkin and Jossart DS patients. Thanks to Sage

McCollister we have a place available to us on Saturday mornings at

the Montclair Recreation Center, 6300 Moraga Avenue. We have

arranged to try four Saturday classes in May. If there is enough

interest, we will be able to have ongoing classes. The classes will

be open; there may be non-WLS people there. Your friends and family

members are welcome and I encourage you to bring them with you.

The first class will be Saturday May 5th at 9:30 a.m. The door will

be open at 9:00 a.m. Plan on being there early enough to get the

mats out of the closet, position them on the floor and relax before

class begins. The class will start at 9:30 a.m. Please, do not be

late. No one will be allowed to enter the classroom once class

begins.

The class will be approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Please wear

comfortable loose fitting clothes that do not bind or restrict

movement. Wear warm socks and bring a throw or blanket to cover

yourself for the deep relaxation. The room is large and might be a

bit cool. Bring a large bath or beach towel to place on top of the

mats to lay on. Refrain from eating for one and one half-hours

before class.

If you want to try yoga, this is your chance. The class is

recommended for those who really want to take it easy. It's ideal

for anyone who is pre surgery, post surgery, recuperating from injury

or those who just want a slow paced class. The assanas (poses) will

increase flexibility, strengthen and tone muscles and help remove

toxins from the body. Emphasis will be given to a guided

visualization for healing with a yogic deep relaxation.

Pranayama, breathing practices, will increase the prana (life force -

energy) and help remove toxins from the body. The energy awakened by

practicing yoga will be balanced with the breath to create harmony

within and a peaceful mind. If you are pre surgery, you will want to

learn the deep breathing exercises that we will be doing. They will

reduce stress, stretch your lungs and are beneficial to a speedy

recovery and help reduce the chance of getting pneumonia.

Date: Saturday May 5, 12, 19 and 26

Time: 9:30 a.m.
