" You probably know the theory - that casein incompletely breaks down and becomes an opioid which crosses the blood-brain barrier and dopes the kids. Removing the opium-like substance from their diet sends them into withdrawal. For some kids, this can mean several unpleasant days (or weeks). Then their minds and bodies clear, and it's just gets better and better. This was the experience of my child, and when he went into withdrawal (including screaming for milk), I was astounded that such a supposedly good food had caused such terrible harm and addiction. His erratic behavior strengthened my resolve to keep all dairy out of our lives. In a few days, he calmed down. There were some more bad episodes over a two week period, but they decreased in frequency & duration while a clear-eyed, clear thinking boy emerged. Good luck,
