Guest guest
On of the ingredients in Ritalin is cow's milk. Therefore not casein free. If a child takes Ritalin, he or she is taking a minute amount of casein. I have read posts where other parents mention that their child takes Ritalin. I was wondering if they knew that this medication is not casein-free, or if they, knowing that it does contain casein, have decided that the trade-off of taking it was positive. I am fairly new to the diet, and it is not clear to me whether a minute amount of casein, for instance, is better that lots of casein, or whether the amount of the offending food (no matter how small) is irrelevant. If the latter is true, does anyone know of any presentation of methylphenidate that is GFCF (plus soy and corn free if possible)? Thanks, la _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
Guest guest
la, Thank you for that update on Ritalin. I was not aware of that, and was on Ritalin for nearly 2 years! She is off now, but I have been debating about putting her back on. This definitely changes things. -- This is how I can afford to stay-at-home AND homeschool... http://www.themomteam.com/cgi-bin/mom.cgi?id=10576&action=show

Guest guest
Before we started the diet there was talk of prescribed medication for my son. That was a route that I really didn't want to go down and when I heard of the diet I prayed this was my saving grace and it was. This diet has helped my son dramatically. I wouldn't consider drugs until after the diet was implemented and he's done wonderfully so he does not take them. I know that everyone is not as lucky as we are and their child also needs them on top of the diet but I would try the diet alone and then see how your child behaves. Remember that just a little bet of gluten or casein and the diet will not work to it's full capacity. It's just like getting a little bit of cocaine, it's still going to give you a high. Good luck
