Then he will stay up late and/or wake up in the middle of the night. I'm not sure if it is a stomach ache or a reaction in the brain. You might also try a little melatonin with magnesium for a week or two just to break him of the habit. Sometimes this waking becomes a habit. I know I do this myself. Good luck. I hope you get some sleep soon.
Guest guest
I would reccomend the diet! My son turned 5 and was getting worse as far as sleeping goes. Up for hours and hours we just were at our wits end. Within the first week he started sleeping thru the night. For us this is a miracle and if we see no other positive changes it doesn't matter. He has been up 2 x in the last 3 months, once with an ear infection and the other with a cold and cough. I was not a believer in the diet for long time but wish we had started immediately. My older son started this diet when he was three and a half. He is now four and a half and he tells me how he used to have such bad nightmares before the diet. I used to be afraid to to go in his room to check on him when he was younger, because if he sensed I was there he would immediately pop up and start screaming. Now, he sleeps like a log, and if I go in to check on him and he wakes up a little, he hugs me, then rolls over and goes back to sleep. My younger son started the diet only one month after his vaccine injury, but in that month, he started waking up earlier and earlier in the morning screaming. Once the diet started, he slept soundly again--except for when we inadvertantly put acidophilus that was contaminated with dairy in his bottle--then he started waking up screaming for his bottle. When we realized that it was the acidophilus, we removed it, and the sleep problems went away again. Best,
Guest guest
Gillian is 2.6 and 1 - 3 am was her time too. It was terrible. She was exhausted (me too). We have been dieting for 5 months. She did go to only up 4 of 7 nights. Then we added epsom salt baths. It helped. Then supps (so far Kirkman nuthera, probiogold, Vit c and nystatin). We also refined her diet more and are eliminating yeast. She has been sleeping from 8/8:30 til 7 am for a month now. She also takes a 1 - 2 hour nap. She is happier and so are we. I really think it was a combo diet supp for us. Keep going, you'll fix her! in Chicago Re: Night Wakings - Diet Change - feedback Please >In a message dated 2/15/01 7:13:41 AM Pacific Standard Time, >whcmccain@... writes: > > >> My two and half yr old has been waking up everynight for the past 3 >> > month from 1 am to 3 am, sometime longer. Guest guest
My child also woke reliably in the night, but his time was 4-6am. Then he'd go to sleep and I'd get in the shower to go to work. I was a wreck. The diet has been great in other ways, but it had no effect on his sleeping. Guest guest
I hate to dissappoint anybody, but our son has been strictly cf/gf since last summer and he still is awake for 3 to 6 hours every night. Pat in Ohio
Guest guest
Shari, Yes, we've been using Kirkman's melatontin w/magnesium plus the extra magnesium for some time. It puts him right to sleep, but it doesn't keep him asleep. We've also tried the epsom salts bath with no apparent results. Yesterday, we did not give him his supplement in the morning, nor did we give him his melatonin/magnesium at bedtime. He went to bed promptly at 8pm, woke briefly around 2:30, then slept till 6am. I can live with that no problem. I don't know if pulling the supplements has anything to do with it, but I think today we will give him his morning supp, but skip the melatonin/magnesium again tonight and see what happens. We're going for an overnight visit to grandparents today, we'll see how that goes. The last time we visited, he slept through the night. Guest guest
Shari, We used SNT for about 3 weeks, then discontinued due to the sleep problems(even though we always gave the vites in the am) and the onset of hand flapping that he never did before SNT. We found a cfgf children's multiple that has significant amounts of the vitamins. It does not however, have the megadoses of B vites like SNT. Our son is 3 1/2 and is on the larger side of the growth chart, his color has a healthy glow and he eats a very good cfgf diet. In other words, we feel that he is thriving. His (sort of) chronic diarrhea (absorption problems?) and just the fact that supplements are the law for asd kids are the only reasons we give him a supplement at all. He's been on this supp for almost a week now. He also takes it without a fight which much more than I can say for the SNT. Guest guest
Shari, has been on Nystatin for some time. He still has occasional bouts with ecsema on his cheeks. I think it is related to slip ups. Pat in Ohio
Guest guest
That's interesting. My daughter has had a problem with eczema on her cheeks since she was about a year old. (Right after she went off of soy formula. Coincedence?) We've had her off of dairy for a week now and will remove gluten from her diet in another week or so. Do you all think the eczema is related to diet? It will be interesting to see if it clears up. ~Amy Pages scrapped in 2001: 12 My goal for 2001: 100 pages Check out our family webpage! www.boswellfamily.homestead.com Re: Night Wakings - Diet Change - feedback Please > Shari, > has been on Nystatin for some time.
