Guest guest
Vivian I do remember you and it is good to hear from you. I'm sorry it has to be something that is wrong that brought you back. I have a rash on my lower legs which has gradually gotten worse, but it itches and has not been spreading like it sounds your son's has. My younger son, while a teenager, got what we called the creeping crud. It was on the front of his one leg and kept getting worse. No one could figure out what it was, but it spread rapidly. We never did find out what it was. His scabbed over and really looked nasty. A physician's assistant debridged (like they do with burns) the dead skin and opened up the entire sore. The antibiotics were then able to work and other than a scar, he has no hint of it ever again. These are the only ones I'm aware of. I hope you get some answers soon. I'm sure they looked at an allergic reaction to something. laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Thu, 13 Jan 2005 04:36:10 -0000 > To: > Subject: persistent rash for 13 weeks > > > > Hi, It has been a long time since I posted here. Guest guest
Maybe the pharmacist can help you double check if any medications he is on could cause the rash. Niacin can cause people to have skin reactions, my dad had one to a certain brand (but not other brands, weird). Also, an infectious disease specialist might someone to see. Any chance it could be Lyme disease? I'm sorry you guys are going through such a frustrating time... If it doesn't itch, it sounds like it could be systemic as you think. I don't recall exactly, but I think there are a few autoimmune diseases that present with rashes, maybe a rheumatologist then? Take care, RH > > > Hi, It has been a long time since I posted here. Guest guest
Hi Vivian, I am not sure what is causing the rash but my brother always had a rash on the back of his leg all thru high school and I think still does. He went to a dermatologist when he lived in Oklahoma a few years ago and he told me what it was a while back but I do not remember what he said he was told it was. I will ask email him and find out what it was. Janet Sample persistent rash for 13 weeks Hi, It has been a long time since I posted here. I needed a break for a time and then I was unable to connect due to a blocker we put on the computer. I hope that some of you will remember me. My name is Vivian and they first thought that I had MS and then discovered that I had MS and mitochondrial myopathy. (Dr. Peltier is my physician in Milwaukee). My son was seen in Cleveland; and although we did not get the muscle biopsy, (he improved significantly on the cocktail); the doctors think he also has mito. He has been well for sometime; but now has developed a rash that we have taken him to three doctors; (2 derms) tried six different lotions and creams and it is still getting worse. At first they said ezema, then psoriasis then pityria rosea, but now they aren't even sure about that. My peditrician called Cohen and asked him if he has ever heard of anything like this, but he said that he had not. It does not itch, but is uncomfortable, and is creeping onto his face and hands (which is going to make school difficult). I am beginning to worry about a systemic infection; considering that the skin is the largest organ and it is about covering it. Has anyone had anything remotely like this; does anyone have any ideas? I would be so grateful for any input. Vivian Medical advice, information, opinions, data and statements contained herein are not necessarily those of the list moderators. Guest guest
Hi Vivian, I'm not sure if its the same thing but I get a strange rash all over that sometimes looks like brush burns and sometimes looks like skin colored raised bumps. It can be painful or itchy but other times doesn't bother me at all. I often get it around my joints and the back of my thighs but have had it all over before. I have been given many different diagnosis for it but I think they just don't know. Elidel does help somewhat. I have just learned to live with it. If you get some answers and it sounds like mine, let me know what they do for it. Have you tried Elidel? We use that on everything now. It even works on my daughter's pimples. Sorry I can't be of more help. Welcome back to the group.
