Guest guest
Hey guys! It's me again. Just about the time I think I have goet everything figured out, something changes. I am really confused and stuck this time. Caleb has been going on for about 3 weeks now throwing up every time he eats. He is doing great as long as he doesn't eat. Before he eats, there is no signs of illness-conjestion, coughing, wheezing, runny nose etc. However, when he begins to eat, he begins to cough. He coughs, and coughs, and coughs until he eventually throws up. He pukes EVERYTHING up and then comes tons of phelgm and mucous. We clean him up and then he goes and continues to eat the rest of his meal with No problem.. So here is my problem....WHY!!! I think he throws up because he is coughing sooo hard. The doctors have told me that under 3 years of age, there bodies don't know which reflex to react with-cough or gag so it is natural. But I don't understand why he starts the coughing. I don't know if it is a problem with the digestive system and we need to see our gi, or if when the food goes down and is triggering something. OR, is it have to do with asthma? Can food cause asthma problems. We can do an abuterol treatment on him and it USUALLY calms the coughing down. Or, is there another allergy to something, but he goes back to it after throwing up with no problem. If he was allergic to what I am giving him, wouldn't he throw it up when he went back to it? I don't know where all of this phelgm is coming from also. Is it normal when a child with digestive problems or is it coming from something else? I don't know which doctor to go to? GI, pulmonologist, allergiest, pediatric? ANy suggestions before I throw my hands up and SCREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest guest
There is something called GERD. Gastro something reflux disorder. I have heard about it on my preemie list. Many preemies are on reglan, zantac and other stuff for this problem. It is serious because the kids start associating eating with pain and then, there go all the sensory issues. I know kids who have g tubes and j tubes (tubes that go into the stomach or intestines) to supplement their feeds or to by pass the esophagus. Find a good gastroenterologist (spellimg?) who can do a swallow study or something similar. Maureen
