Hi Heidi, Glad you went to the ER and got checked out. I hope the local hospital is involving Dr K in your care and he is being consulted for the rhabdo issues. I have no idea what would cause the difference in blood sugar results, but I have noticed that when my fingers are really cold I get a lower reading and when they are really warm, it reads higher. I haven't been able to figure out why. Malisa
Guest guest
If you add more fluid to your blood, and don't add more glucose, your blood sugar should decrease. Differences of up to 20 may be expected, but a difference of 100 sounds weird. Be a scientist - test until you get three results that agree within 20. Maybe you need a different type meter, or could there be something you are taking that interferes with the testing? Take care, RH > > > I got a fluid bolus and I'm feeling human again. I've checked forearm against finger all day today and even though my sugars have run really low (down to 60 from 300's yesterday, oops) there's only a 5-10 point difference. Sometimes fingertip is higher, sometimes lower. But my hands are warm and I'm feeling much better today. If we were talking about H, I'd say she wasn't perfusing as well so I'd draw off her line to get a valid number. I also wouldn't trust a peripheral pulse ox reading and would expect a low BP. I guess the apple doesn't fall very far from the tree. Dr. K is keeping tabs on the rhabdo. I have orders for weird labs to be drawn if it happens again but everyone is thinking is was a drug reaction and was a one time thing. is doing fine. Excellent nursing coverage too. Even overnight nursing to push meds and straight cath so and I can stay in bed at the same time! WOO WOO Heidi

Guest guest
Heidi, Glad you are feeling better and you have a chance to stay in bed. As far as the big difference in test results I remember I did have results like that once but one was like 50 and the other like 200. This was when I was having 200's so the first one maybe the amount of blood wasn't read correctly or something.
