Guest guest
Barbara, I'm glad the actual GK procedure is behind you. (It sounded like a very tough procedure to endure.) Please know my thoughts and vibes are with you during your recovery. (So sorry for the pain and discomfort you are dealing with.) My son is scheduled for his pre-op testing (labs, MRI, ct scan, mask fitting) on March 1st. His FSR treatments begin on March 7th. He'll have daily radiation treatments for the duration of that week. I fully admit DH and I are very worried and my son is too. Thinking of you. Hugs, Marie Re: need for hydration * How did the gamma knife go? Guest guest
Oh, Marie! I've been thinking of you! Your info from the docs at JHH (who could find nothing in the literature about the effects of radiation on mito disease) really had an impact on my docs, made them much more appreciative of the risks and made everyone much more willing to accommodate my special needs. We did prevent worst-case scenarios-no seizures or stroke-like episodes. I am now 10 days past and making more progress than I had expected for this length of time. But I can certainly understand your concern. In retrospect it's hard for me to sort out what really did cause the crash-and I did have a grand crash. Probably a combination of factors: the grueling schedule, the sedatives and the radiation. As my doc commented, the GK schedule for one day was more than I do in a week, plus it disrupted all my usual patterns of sleep, rest and activity. They only gave me one-quarter of the usual Versed dose and in tiny increments, but it still had profound negative effects on muscle. Picture a drunk noodle and you have the idea. Factor in a sizeable dose of radiation and it all made for a crash. I can only hope that for your son, spreading the radiation out over a week will help prevent the worst effects. Will certainly keep you in my thoughts and prayers and will put a post-it note on my monitor for your dates so I won't forget!
