Guest guest
I took my son to see a nurse practicioner a week ago Friday. She was so much more knowledgeable (what am I saying? My kids' pediatricion didn't have A CLUE!) than the professionals I had been working with. However, she automatically started him on Acidophilus/Bifidus, 1 tsp. daily. We have Ultra Flora Plus DF which lists a serving size as 1/2 tsp., which contains 2.25 billion live Lactobaccilus acidophilus organisms and the same for Bifidobacterium infantis. The directions call for 1/2 tsp. 2 to 3 times a day. She said giving my son 1 tsp. once daily was fine. He is 4 years old and weighs 45 pounds. I always thought that Acidophilus Bifidus was a fairly innocuous thing but I question everything these days. I read somewhere of yeast die off causing a childs lungs to fill because it was being done too quickly, this however was using Nystatin or Diflucan (can't remember). By the way, she ordered allergy testing (IGG for foods and also for yeast) but at this point we don't even know if he has a yeast problem. He did have a 10 day round of Amoxil a month ago for strep but has not had a history of a lot of ear infections or antibiotic use. How accurate is blood testing for yeast allergy? Would this also indicate an overgrowth of yeast if positive? I, by the way, have a yeast allergy. Thanks, Rosie
