I have had it for a month now, but my home healthcare nurse told me that she has had patients that had it in for 6 mos to two years. It was wonderful this weekend when I had another attack and got admitted to the hospital. They could do all my blood draws, IV fluids, etc. It did NOT hurt that bad to have it put in. They numb the area. I also ask for my morphine right before they start, but it truly was not that bad to have it put in. Once it starts in the vein, you don't feel anything, just maybe a little pressure as they thread it in through the skin. I am SO GLAD to have the PICC line and not get poked so much every time I go to the hospital. Cecilia Cecilia , Ph.D. soce@... Guest guest
Hi All So after a whirlwind weekend I had a PICC line placed yesterday. It didn't hurt any more than a regular IV. However, it isn't in good position and it probably won't last too long. So the IV nurse encouraged me to have a port scheduled ASAP. So much for being able to do GI testing and actually make a choice about this. I know I need it and that I'll feel better but I hate doing things quickly like this. I'm meeting my new PCP today. I hope I don't scare him away on the first visit. Dr. Korson's office has been phenomenal in getting all this taken care of. Does anyone else see Dr. Quo at Mass General for GI motility? I'm being referred to him. Thanks Heidi
