Guest guest
, I was on Florinef for a couple of months last year for low BP. I think it helped a little, but not to the extent that the doctors wanted it too. Mine drops when I sit for any length of time, but pretty much normalizes when I stand. I had blood tests done, and while my minerals and hormones seem to be doing okay, my cortisol is on the low side, and my ACTH (pituitary gland) is out-of-range low. My Cardiologist (who wasn't happy that the endo did nothing about my low levels) put me on the med. It's usually given to people with 's disease, along with something like prednisone. Anyway.... it makes your kidneys retain sodium, which causes the BP to rise. It also dumps a lot of potassium. Someone asked me why I don't just eat a lot of salt, instead? I didn't have a good answer. But if I learn that it would be just as beneficial on raising my BP, I'd rather do that. I'm calling my endo tomorrow to see what she says about all this; but for now, I wondering if anyone here has had success, or problems, with this drug. Did they offer you any other form of treatment, or did they just send you on your way? Thanks, B
Guest guest
, You can try taking salt tablets first. I went that route but it was not enough to make my BP increase on it's own. I was prescribed Florinef by a syncope specialist cardiologist after failing the tile table test and being Dx'd with POTS. The Florinef really bottomed out my plasma Potassium. I would highly advise you go on a K supplement while taking Florinef. I had to discontinue the Florinef after my echo showed heart failure. It works by making you retain fluids and that is not a good thing when your heart isn't functioning at full capacity. I also use to take a different med for increasing my BP called Midodrine. It doesn't have the same side effects as Florinef. Maybe you could ask your doc about trying Midodrine. They can be taken together as well if needed.
