I can't recall if the red spots were hot or not but they looked scorched when they disappeared, & were so painful we couldn't wash his face. They'd disappear every summer as we ate fresh berries in season rather than applesauce then, and the red patches returned in the fall. After we removed applesauce it was fine until he ate so many fresh apples the spots returned again. Salycilates are now out of his diet and he's had no red spots on face or red ears for months :-) (the red ears would appear 2 1/2 days after eating an orange so it took a long time to figure out what they were from.)
