Choosing a baby formula

Hi all,

I am having another child and while I am planning on breast feeding I

wanted to know what would be the formula of choice if I needed to

supplement my breastmilk for any reason. I have a 4 year old with

autism (and a 7 yr. old NT) who clearly has milk allergies and has

been GFCF for about 9 months. Is soy based formula the way to go. I

believe that was what I had read but I was wondering if there was any

research out there about soy formula long term. I appreciate any

advice. Thanks,

Carole

I have been researching this intensly for the last month or so

because I am due in June with my daughter. My son is 5yo PDD-NOS on a CFGF &

Soy free diet. The only formulas available that I can see are totally free of

Casein is the Enfamil soy formula. Nutramigen and Alimentum has trace amounts

of Casein in them. I plan on breastfeeding, then introducing the soy formula

and testing her for allergies at around 6-10mon old. I feel if she has

intolerances they should show up by then.

Hope I helped a little

Hugs, Terry.B ( also been investigating the vaccine's )

Hi ,

I understand how you are feeling, I felt the same way! My son drank the

soy formula past age two. All you can do is look ahead. Wean your child

off the soy. Does your child take a good vitamine? I switched my son to

rice milk. I kept adding more and more filtered water. He now drinks

mostly water with just a touch of rice milk. He also takes a good

multivtamn and calcium supplements. Good luck!

---You may want to try EleCare from Ross or Neocate from SHS.

Elecare is $182 for 6 boxes, its a lot.

My daughter 10 months old is doing well on Neocate, she is very

allergic to soy.We have tried 6 different babyformula -

Nutramigen, soy etc. She only " eats " neocate, rice and pearjam.

She has the same history from birth as my 6 year old boy slipping

totally away from us at age 5,5.- >

Dr. Reichelt told me that kids really didn't need milk substitutes

as long as you gave them Calsium. Water was the best thing for bigger

kids.
