Any doctor or hospital can pull titres to measure immunity. The most useful

are:

rubeola (measles) IgG

mumps IgG

rubella IgG quantitative

diphtheria IgG

tetanus IgG

pertussis IgG

Heb B surface Ab

Polio IgG

Your doctor is mistaken. Ask him to call the lab (or two) to find out what

he may not already know. On the religious thing. I just say it's against

my religion to have an autistic kid and certainly against my religion to

make him worse and I don't even believe in organized religion so it's not a

lie, it's protecting your child.

If your inquiry requires highly specialized assistance (such as information

to be submitted in a new drug application) or if you are requesting a meeting

with someone in headquarters, you may save time by directly calling the

appropriate center. These people can also send you a wide variety of helpful

publications or audiovisuals:

I can't for the life of me understand why your Doctor refuses the titre

test!! Surely it's safer to do this than give any vaccine, capable of some

serious side effects-that may not even be needed?!

You could try for Phylisophical (sp?)exemption, if this exists in your

state, or another option may be going back to your doctor and asking if you

could have titres checked privately, though you would have to pay, failing

the doctors co-operation for this - you could maybe try finding a lab and/or

doctor willing to do this yourself -(some Labs request a doctors referral)-

hope this helps.

Good Luck.

Best wishes,

margaret.

My sons Pedi also said that the only titer he can check for is

MMR. Thankfully Niks came back very high ( so now what does that tell you

about the shot ). Even his Pedi was amazed at how high his titers were.

Anyway I have a great Pedi and he agreed to not give Nik any shots and write

a Physicians note so Nik doesn't have to get anymore shots.

Hi Hollly and ,

I didn't see Holly's post until after I posted mine. I guess my dr is

clueless about pulling titers for DT (gee, big surprise there....)

And as for what Holly said about protecting your child, I agree 150%.

Hi ,

I'm in PA too, in Philly. My daughter just turned 4 and we ran titers for

MMR and the pertussis part of the DTP. My doctor too said that titers could

not be run on diptheria or tetanus, so we didn't. I think that Holly posted

before that it is possible, but maybe our dr's aren't up to speed on the

latest tests for this.

Like your son, my daughter was sky high for measles (and mumps and rubella

and pertussis too). We declined both the MMR and DTP at her 4 year old well.

I plan on NOT getting her the DT shot before she enters school. The tetanus

shot contains thimerosal and she's had way, way, way too much of that

already. I plan on seeking a religious exemption when she enters school.

They are by law, FORBIDDEN to ask you your religion and where it says it

that your religion forbids them. While we are involved in our church, as

Lutherans we do not forbid immunizations, but I consider it more of a

'spiritual' exemption.

I don't consider it lying, I consider it protecting my daughter from more

autism.

Hope this helps, feel free to email me privately if you want,

Penny

Did they check the pertusis titers? My Doc didn't know if there is such a

test for pertusis. She only found the one for diptheria and tetunis(sp?).

Thanks.

I called the lab in the DFW area recently and they were quite rude. I asked

about the price of several tests and all she would say was " A DOCTOR HAS TO

ORDER THOSE TESTS. " I kept saying, yes, I know, but just answer my question.

I finally gave up and had the doctor call. I hope every one here has better

luck than I did.

Ok My lab did a test for Diptheria so there's at least a test for D and P of

the DTP. Since everyone needs the tetnas (sp) vaccine every 10 years, I

guess testing for immunity is a moot point

I'm not .

But I know in our area (Northern Virginia) almost all the drawing labs are

Quest. It is the one our insurance uses. If you have no luck finding a

lab, ask your doctor about who they would have do such a test. I think its

pretty common and they should know about it.

Does everyone? Isn't that what the pharmaceutical labs say about

almost every vax? And it seems like emergency room staff try to give

one of these every time someone pops their head in the door. Last

trip we made there, the doc was pushing a tetanus shot (for a

sprained ankle), so I lied and said I had one the prior year. He

didn't miss a beat, saying I needed one " just in case " .

Someone on this list must have info about how long these really last

and what can be done instead if there is a puncture wound. Anyone??
