Last week we had to take our son off of the Luvox he had been taking because

he was not sleeping. He was off of the medicine for 3 days. By the end of

the third day he was sitting on the couch, slapping his head with his hand.

I counted 15 slaps before I could get his attention elsewhere. He was

screaming, charging us (we could not make eye-contact without him becoming

extremely agitated). He began to sit on the floor and bang his head on the

floor. We managed to get him up and to the couch. That is when he began to

slap his head.

We called the doctor and he told us to put him back on the Luvox. Within 30

minutes this behavior had stopped. He became relaxed, his breathing and

heartbeat returned to normal. Luvox leaves the system within 2 days so it

was not withdrawal symptoms. He needs the stuff to replace the Seratonin

that his brain cannot make.

I have not read your other posts. Perhaps you have already seen a doctor

about medication but if you have not -- for your child's sake -- do so as

soon as possible.

Somethings I would consider:

1) Check out the ideas about a rotation diet, phenols, dyes/natural

flavors in foods.

2) He may have a food that is not agreeing with him. It also could be

an allergy to something like corn or soy (which are the most common allergy

for our kids.)

3) When Jeff gets " strange " or differs from his typical behaviors, I

pull out ALL SUPPLEMENTS. I then reintroduce them one a time, a minimum of 4

days a part.

4) I document EVERYTHING and make sure that I am not overloading my

son's system.

Thanks. I was thinking of trying the Feingold diet as well. I hope I can do

it. It's so hard just doing the GF/CF diet. He does get the red ears so I

really thought taking dyes and such away would be good for him.

He's always been a head banger. It was even worse when he was little, he

would constantly have scabs on his forehead and chin from banging on the

floor. It breaks my heart when I catch him hitting himself in the face with

his fist.
