Guest guest
Does anyone in Florida know of any summer programs for autistic children? I have no idea what I'm going to do with my daughter 9 1/2 years old this summer. Regular day-care won't do. Around here they usually just have a sort of field trip type summer program for the kids and my daughter tends to wander off. I don't trust them to watch her. I have to work to pay for the medical bills and don't know what I'm going to do. Last year my son watched her and that just didn't go over too well, so we vowed not to do that to him this year. The year before my husband was on night shift so it worked well. I don't think I can afford a private sitter and besides they really don't offer the type of structure she needs. Thanks Lori in Melbourne email:llovesunshine@...
Guest guest
Lori, I'm not familiar with Melbourne, but the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities at UCF, telephone number covers your area, and it seems they were talking about a summer program. If you're not a member already, they are a tremendous source. Also, UCP here in Orlando has a summer program, and I'm not sure if htey have a counterpart in Melbourne, but it may be a bit pricey. Also UCF college students in your area who are getting degrees in special education have jumped at opportunities such as this to get hands-on experience over the summer. A friend a mine whose two twin sons have MS have such a student to help with their intensive therapy programs. Good luck. Guest guest
Thanks Carol for replying. I'll give them a call to see if they have any programs available and also contact BCC to see if they might have something going on. We are very careful about who watches her because I'm so afraid of getting someone who really can't handle her or is abusive.
