Hi,

I am new to the diet and I am just starting to remove casein from my son's

diet. I substitute his bottle with SILK vanilla soymilk. How do you know if

your child is allergic to soy or not?

Thanks,

Patty

Patty,

Whenever we gave him anything that wasn't Similac low iron formula he

would first get stomach cramps, then diarhea and then eventually a milk

rash. We kept him on the Similac until he was 2 1/2 on the advise of

his allergist. It wasn't unitl he started with myoclonic seizures that

we took him off all dairy and switched to rice milk.

Many kids have the same reaction to soy that they do to milk. I highly

recommend Doris Rapp's book Is This Your Child? which is very informative

about spotting food allergies. Soy gives my daughter dark circles under her

eyes and makes her behavior worse when she consumes too much.

What if your child doesn't show signs of allergy to milk? My son does not,

but I switched him to SILK soymilk any how and I was just concerned if I

should use the darifree instead. I had been to an allergy doctor 6 months

ago, when my son was only 21 months old and he told me he didn't display any

signs of allergies and he would do 100 tests if I wanted him to but he didn't

feel it was necessary. I just want to know where to start and what tests to

perform so that I can start to implement the diet correctly and give my son

whatever additional supplements might be needed due to the diet. I have been

giving my son Supra Nu Thera since he was 20 months old just because I heard

our kids break down their foods differently than we do and that they may lose

alot of the B6 and Mag that is necessary for optimum brain development.

If anyone can tell me what basic tests to do, just to start out, I would

appreciate it.

The only test I had performed was at Kennedy Kreiger Institute and they were

Fragile X DNA and chromosones and Organic Acid (urine) and they came back

normal.

Thank you

Patty

There is a test that you can have done that tests for sensitivities to

IgG reactive foods. It's very informative and will also spot any other

food sensitivities that your child may have. Aletess does the test per

request by your Dr.

Evan did not show any allergy to milk but he did drink a lot of it. he loved

cheese and would pull it off the pizza or the cheeseburger.. Now he has red

ears when he gets any milk products or wheat. He has been 5 months on the

diet. We use DariFree because I worry about using too much soy.

Some of our kids have problems with soy and with corn. These are almost as

common as the casein and gluten. I do not think Evan has problems with them

now but I try to limit their use because they are in so many things and so

hard to eliminate so that he does not build up an intolerance for them also.

So I stopped the soy drinks. I use Blue Diamond Almond Vanilla Breeze and

mostly DariFree. I have quit using corn and soy oil, corn flour and soy

bean flour. I still give him corn for a vegetable but I try and limit it.

If I had everything on a rotation diet, like I should, I probably would add

these back in on rotation. But right now, the rest of the family is having

problems with their physical and mental health and I am just barely staying

a float with Evan's diet. We are still keeping it going but I am not had

time to work out any rotation list and more importantly, stick with it.
