Guest guest
Hello everyone, just wanted to let you all know that we made it home safe and sound. We had no problems at all w/ the roads or the weather. we got home yesterday at about 5:00 a.m. Well is on her last ste of casts and she is doing ok. Boy this last set of casts she looks as if her feet are almost backwards! Looks painful to me but she seems to be ok with them. She just is not crawling again and I am not sure if it is because we have wooden floors or because of the position of the casts? I hope it is nothing to worry about. She will be in the casts for 2-3 weeks Dr. Ponseti said. was not a good girl for the last casting, it took 4 people to hold her down to cast. She did whatever she could to try to get free! Bite, scratch, scream, pull the nurse's hair, kick Dr.Ponseti with her free leg, you name it! They could not believe how strong she was! She cried through the whole casting! Dr. Ponseti and the nurses just laughed. The good thing is that she did not have to get another heel cord release. When we were there we got to meet his wife and his son that was visiting which was nice. His wife is really sweet. Im so glad we made the decision to go. Everything turned out just perfect! We are hoping she will begin to walk pretty soon, Dr. Ponseti said she was ready to walk the problem was that her feet were not corrected. We also got her shoes which she will wear 23/7 for a month then 18hrs then nightime and naps. So we could not have asked for a better outcome. When her 2nd set of casts were removed her feet looked so much better, we had never seen her feet look that good! So we could not have asked for a better way to end the year! I look forward to hearing those tiny perfect feet running around!!! and BL CF 12/16/
Guest guest
Oh , I am so happy for you and ! It is amazing the weight that is lifted just by going to see Dr. Ponseti! I remember that set of casts well. Very freaky looking, LOL! I kept asking are you sure this is o.k.? I couldn't fathom that it was the correct way to have his feet. But didn't mind it at all, and once we got past the casting day and the day after he was crawling all over the place. I would put big socks on over her casts to make them a little easier to crawl on and so you don't ruin your hardwood floors. yeah, we have those too. We used bigger pairs of pants and got big sock to put over his casts, now? Nothing slows this guy down. She will adjust to this set too and be off like a shot in no time, she's just got to get over be traumatized first! screamed and screamed for most of them too. It's amazing how strong these kids are! How old is ? I am so glad to hear things are going so smoothly for you. I don't know if anyone mentioned this to you, but have you looked into the angel flights? They are free and awesome. In the summer when we have to go back we will be using htem. Now it got dark too early and the weather was too unpredictable in Michigan. Just a thought, but they are free to anyone with a medical need and can't afford commercial flights all the time. congrats on being home and successful. Lord bless you both, atypical bl cf 10-09-03 ( 1 more week on relapse cast and then into special walking shoes! Guest guest
Thanks so much for your response. Beleive we could not be any happier! just turned 1 on the 16th. I think your litttle boy is about 2 months older than her? I know he is in a cast right now but was he walking yet? I cant wait till she is out of these casts. Dr. Ponseti did give me extra cast material just in case she breaks some off and she is doing a good job of that by banging her feet on the floor. I can feel the heel a little softer now. I think or am sure i should say that next time we will fly. It was a long and tiring trip but it was well worth it. I told Dr. Ponseti that the last Dr. she was seeing was " following his method " and he said a lot of doctors say that but dont. He also told me not to see him for check ups either. He told me just to email him picture of her feet in 4 months. He is just so amazing. I have a picture of us with Dr. Ponseti that I will post later, Im still trying to put my house back together after the trip! and BL CF 12/16/03 > > > > Hello everyone, just wanted to let you all know that we made it home > > safe and sound. Guest guest
Hi , No, he wasn't walking yet. He was in casts for the first year of his life so he never got a chance to try or to build up his leg muscles, something we are sure working on now and as soon as these suckers come off! yeah, we got an extra roll too, but we've already gone through it and still have a week left. I've got to go get some more today as his toes are breaking down underneath. oiy! These kids...what we wouldn't do for them! Dr. P is a pretty amazing man. so are and and cher! And I love talking with Joyce. I got a great picture of jason sitting on dr. p's lap, and another one of holding him while he's sleeping. They do so much good! I am glad to hear you are doing well. Have fun and take pictures!! lord bless you in this new year! > > > > > > Hello everyone, just wanted to let you all know that we made it > home > > > safe and sound. Guest guest
Well thank you so much! We are the ones that got home last tuesday from iowa! LONG TRIP, BUT WELL WORTH IT!! Where are you from? We live about 1 hour south of Amarillo. After the trip we thought that next time we would fly b/c it is such a long trip & with 2 kids it was a little rough but i think they did very good. On the the way over there we did stop for the night but on the way back we drove all night. Ive been out of town but i have read some of your posts and i am so glad you will see Dr.Ponseti. You really have made the best choice for your little one. I hope everything turns out great! and BL CF 12/16/03 > Hello everyone, just wanted to let you all know that we made it home > safe and sound.
