Guest guest
Gillian I take a combination of Tenormin and Accupril. One is a beta blocker and the other a calcium channel blocker. I have had no problems with them. I do take potassium as my kidney's spill it, along with calcium, phosphorus and magnesium. laurie > My GP has suggested I ask you all as PATIENTS with MITO. if any of you > take BP meds for high blood pressure and if so what have you found to > work without causing problems re. your mito. > Yes I seem to react badly to some of them..lose > potassium for some unknown reason, > I have tried diuretics and they were horrendous.. > This is not medical advice he/I are seeking just patients opinions as > it may help him to give me something that may be commonly used on this > list that WORKS without major problems.. > > Thanks > Gillian > > > > > > Medical advice, information, opinions, data and statements contained herein are not necessarily those of the list moderators. Guest guest
Hi, Gillian That is a good question - on both parts. I have been on 4 different meds at one time or another, and to tell you the truth, I can't tell for sure if any one of them made me worse. I do believe that when I was on very high doses it made me more tired and weak. But, I am not a good judge of these things. I never know what is doing me in. Anyway, the low -down Ace inhibitor - I was on vasotec for a long time, it seemed to help, and no glaring side-effects. Calcium Channel Blocker - Norvasc 5mg -Taking it now - same comment as above. Potassium-sparing dieuretic - Spironolactone - 25 mg - Taking it now - same comment as above, except I don't know if it isn't drying out my sinuses etc a lot. My sinuses, lips, skin are just dry dry dry all the time. (I am light skinned, and always had a tendency in that direction anyway). They are suggesting a small dose of a Beta Blocker, but I am not sure that will work for me. I will try it after I get my sinuses under control. Several years ago I switched docs and HE put he on higher doses of a couple of different meds, a Beta Blocker and a different Ace Inhibotor, and I know I was feeling worse than usual at that time. I mean really bad. I believe it could have been the Beta Blocker, because they are known to produce fatigue. I also believe he had me on doses that were too high. So, not sure what the problem was, but I learned to watch the meds. The new doc said take lower doses, and add a second or third one if the first one does not do the job. I have done a bit of reading in the different classes, and it depends on what other illnesses the person has. EG, certain meds are suggested for a diabetic hypertensive, one with kidney problems, age of patient, whether systopic or diastopic is the worse, if the patient has heart problems, etc. As far as any meds contraindicated in mito, I do not know. Perhaps they are on some lists and I don't recognize them. It certainly would be less fun if there were only ONE SIMPLE name for each med If there is any info, I would love to know. Personally, and based on what my doc said, I would/am trying the Beta Blocker as a last choice. That is ok, for me, since they are recommended for patients with heart problems, and I do not fall into that category - yet anyway. In terms of your dieuretic, consider using a a very very low dose of several of these meds, including or excluding the dieuretic. Good Luck!! Let me know what you wind up with. I did find a great article on the meds. Of course it is lost. If i can retrieve it, will post. Guest guest
The morning before my surgery my BP spiked and surgery was held up for awhile. That evening when they got me up to go to the bathroom it bottomed out, so back to bed for me. The 26th when I saw the doctor my BP was 192/92 and today she wouldn't tell me what it was just that it wasn't as high as it was the 26th. My feet and legs are swelling so badly and I use no salt and try to keep my below 2000 mg and drink at least four bottles of water daily, plus some green tea. Who knows?? Guest guest
I take 10mg of Norvasc daily for BP, as well as 50mg Tenormin twice daily, which I think is supposed to have something to do with BP but ?? I have been taking one Lasix three times weekly (supposedly) to alleviate the swelling in my legs and feet and one potassium pill (Klor-Con M10) at the same time I take the Lasix?? Yes I seem to react badly to some of them..lose potassium for some unknown reason, I have tried diuretics and they were horrendous.. This is not medical advice he/I are seeking just patients opinions as it may help him to give me something that may be commonly used on this list that WORKS without major problems.. Guest guest
Gillian, I take Lisinopril 20 mg twice a day for my HBP. I don't know too much about it except it works and I have no side effects. Hope this helps.
