Guest guest
hi michele, when we travel with jenna (our 2 year old) we put her in pull ups and take the potty along in the trunk of our car. it was suggested to me to actually use the feel and learn training pants because with pull ups they are like diapers (absorb the wetness) and the feel and learns keep them feeling wet to make them realize that they did go to the bathroom... maureen > > Hi everyone, Collin has an appoinment with Dr. Herzenberg this > Friday. Guest guest
Michele, I am also in the middle of potty training. I would use pull-ups also for long road trips, especially the first couple of weeks. I explained to my son that he still had to tell me if he needs to go potty. He did very well, and after a couple of weeks, I had no problems with long road trips and now we don't need the pull-up. Only at night. I would allow extra time for the trip in case you need several stops. Try not to give him anything to drink at least 1 hour before leaving. That will also help. See you Friday,, we will be there!!! Guest guest
Thanks! We do have the feel & learn pull-ups (he loves them because they have spiderman & the hulk on them). I can bring the potty along in the trunk...but what do you do next. Where do you put it for him to go? Do I sit it on the side of a road, or actually let him sit on it with the trunk open? I think I will do the pull-ups and just tell him to tell me and pull over if I can into a rest area, but if we are not near one, how do you use the potty? Sorry for all of the silly questions, this is my first time potty training, he is almost 3 1/2 so I'm really hoping he will stick with it since he has been doing great since Sunday morning. Guest guest
when it was warmer out, we'd just pull over and put her potty between the two open doors to cut out some of the wind. when it got colder, we'd just lift her into the trunk with a blanket wrapped around her. we potty trained her in the summer so now that it's into the -20Cs and -30Cs she's able to hold it more until we get somewhere, but i think if it was a real emergency we'd probably try and do it in the car - i know some of my friends are able to do it successfully, but i'd be worried about making a mess... our potty is fairly small though, so i think it could be done if it had to... hth, maureen > > Thanks! Guest guest
Hi How old is your son? I have had two girls who were both trained by now but I have no idea how or when to start with my son, I suppose that means he isn't ready just yet Rach Steve &Connor -- Dr. H Appt. & Potty Training Question Hi everyone, Collin has an appoinment with Dr. Herzenberg this Friday. He is on his 3rd day of underwear (except nap & bed time). I so afraid that if I put him in diapers on Friday, I will loose the whole weeks progress he has made, he is doing so well. Should I let him wear a diaper or underwear, I'm not used to traveling with potty training? The ride is about 2 hours each way. If I had a minivan or something like that I could pull over to the side of the road and bring his little potty chair, but I have a car, so that won't work. Any advice on how you have done it, I know many of you travel to see your children's doctors, I would love to hear your opinions! I know I could pull into a rest area, but he's learning still, he has to go when he says he has too, he couldn't wait more then 5 minutes so far. Guest guest
Rach, He will be 3 1/2 in Febuary. I started a while back, but would back off when ever he would rebel. This is the first successful few days thats why I just want to go with it. He asked for a diaper a few times, but I just said calmly, no we just wear dipaers at nap and bed time, and just continued what I was doing and didn't make a big deal over it...I think it is working so far. I wish I would have just did this before. He has had a potty chair for quite some time, but we keep that upstairs and the seat comes off to attach to the toliet when there ready. Downstairs he uses a dora seat that attaches right to our regular toliet. Now he prefers just to sit on the " big " potty, so I let him choose. I've bought books/videos in the past but he had no interest really what so ever. He loves to be read to while in the potty, any books except potty books! I want to put him in preschool soon and thought it would be less transition if I have him go in trained. Rather them his starting in a training class room and then switching classes again once done. I'd rather him be in the same class and just be moved to another room for educational or age reasons. I wish I had all of the potty training answers, but I think it is just trial and error because all kids require different thinks. I use pez candies or m&m's. He gets 1 everytime he tries (only if he remembers to ask), if he forgets I don't bring it up. I give him 3 or 4 if he actually " goes " . Guest guest
Yes, and do stop often and give him the chance to get out of the car and move around a little bit before insisting he try to go potty. If he just got up from being tied down he'll want to explore the store more than concentrate on needing to pee. It's worth the few extra minutes it takes. s. Guest guest
OK - don't throw eggs at me but why is a child that age still using a potty chair instead of a real toilet? Will he use a real toilet at a gas station? I can't imagine setting a potty chair up along the road some where or having to haul a dirty one in my trunk but then again, I never did use a potty chair or pull up thingys. I think it'll be OK - I mean he'll probably not have accidents in the car if he's been potty training for a while now. s. Re: Dr. H Appt. & Potty Training Question Thanks! Guest guest
When they're ready, they'll tell you some how, like wanting to try it, or going all night for many nights with out wetting. Boys generally train (I hate that word) later than girls, they develop muscle control later (in general), and potty training is all about muscle control. Keep encouraging, you know, but not to the point of freaking him out or embarrassing/shaming him some how. I kept an old cinder block by our toilet he could stand on to get to the seat or stand on to pee. Some say to put Fruit Loops or something in the toilet a boy can aim at for fun.....I didn't go that route myself but I was lucky with , he was a breeze..... (so I figure potty training Everett will be a b******! LOL!) s. Dr. H Appt. & Potty Training Question Hi everyone, Collin has an appoinment with Dr. Herzenberg this Friday.
