Guest guest
, I am not sure what you have tried for the ostomy leakage, but my son has successfully used a prescriptive cream called Critic-Aid Skin Paste for the leakage around his g-tube. It has been the only product in 6 yrs that has helped prevent his skin from breaking down. The cream contains:Petrolatum and Zinc Oxide and goes on very creamy. It stays on even when your skin gets wet to help protect it. no longer requires silver nitrate sticks which we used to use to cauterize the skin around the stoma when the leakage would cause breakdown and bleeding. He used to suffer terribly beofre the doc prescribed this for him. If you need any more info on the Critic-Aid email me and i send it to you. Hope you feel better and maybe get some relief with this paste. > I had a 2nd consult with the local surgeon this morning. Guest guest
Thanks, , I am going to print and save. Had not heard of Critic-Aid from my tube-feeding group, though certainly heard of the silver nitrate sticks and other remedies. For me, steroid cream applied daily controls the granulation tissue. I have no bleeding as long as I use a small amount every day, but it comes back quickly if I quit. I'm fortunate to have a very good fit of tube to stoma and rarely have leakage. But the tissue still irritates and breaks down easily. I also have hives a lot around the stoma. I still have a lot of internal pain from the j-tube, depending on how I sit. After two years, I figure it's not going to go away. No one has been able to explain the ongoing pain, though I have my own theories. , so glad you have found a local surgeon who will help. It has been such a relief to me to find good local help.
