Guest guest
Oh sweetie! Hang in there. I am so sorry. Have you tried emailing pictures to Dr. Ponseti? Is Dr. Schmale wanting to do casting as opposed to surgery? Is either one of these doctors consulting with Dr. Ponseti? I would get him into the picture as fast as possible, before surgery is done. When Dr. Mosca said her ankle was still very tight, did he mean Dr. Schmale had done as good of a job as could be done without surgery? Maybe that's how Dr. S thinks the correction is fine. My sons feet are still very very tight, after two surgeries and a year in casts. we are now at the point where, this is as good as they get until he can start standing on them to force his feet down. I know it's not the same, but his feet are tight too and Dr. ponseti casted as much as he could to acheive the correction we have right now, but it's still not fully corrected. We just need him to start walking on them to put pressure on them and to stretch. I don't know if this helps at all, but just know i am so sorry you are going through this and I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Lord bless you and fill you with His peace. Trust in the One who created her. atypical bl cf 10-09-03 > > SO... Guest guest
, It's interesting you say that standing will stretch the feet? Livi stands and cruises most of the time she is awake since about 3 months ago... I wonder why that hasn't helped. She often is on her tip toe on her tighter foot. From what I gathered, Mosca said that the correction was as good as it was going to be without further surgical intervention, because the achilles tendon was most likely not causing the tightness - it's being caused by the " ankle capsule " whatever that is.. I felt better about seeing Schmale after talking to Dr. Mosca, but now I'm getting that old feeling that he still has no idea who we are - and we've been seeing him for the last 10 months!! I've been procrastinating getting pics to Dr. Ponseti - time to dig out the digital camera and try my luck. Thank you for your prayers.. I have been so stressed lately and this on top of everything else- I've been getting kind of snippy w/ DH and I don't mean to! Darby Livi 3/15/04 bi cf dbb 12/7 EDD # 2 5/12/05 > > > > SO... Guest guest
Darby, Why don't you just have Dr. Mosca see her from now on? I think... when anyone gets a weird feeling about a doc that it's time to change to one you like if you can. I would also ask Dr. Ponseti about this ankle capsule thing. you're the first here to mention it (I've been here nearly 2y now) and I'm interested in this as well. What the heck is an ankle capsule anyway? Kori At 02:51 PM 1/11/2005, you wrote: >, > >It's interesting you say that standing will stretch the feet? Guest guest
Darby, went through that procedure too. I think it was the capsulectomy, that and the posterior and tibular release I think they said. That was the surgery Dr. Ponseti referred us for. That's what dr. ponseti has said. needs to stretch his ankles heels and souls of feet. He simply refuses to stand and when he does he too does the tippy toe thing or he screams whenever I work with him. It is so hard. I would definitely get the pictures out. if there is a chance to fix this without the surgery, Dr. ponseti will know. Has Schmale been consulting with Dr. P at all? Guest guest
No, he hasn't been consulting with Ponseti - I'm sure he'll be consulting at least with Dr. Mosca after my appointment on Thursday. Dr. Mosca explained the capsulectomy and the reason behind it so well - I really feel comfortable with having the procedure done. He explained in detail how the Ponseti method works and why it has almost, but not completely, fixed Livi's feet. I just don't feel comfortable with Schmale making such an off base comment about her feet being too small to wear the shoes - especially since she's been in them for so long! I hope it all gets straightened out on Thursday - I got the office to squeeze us in for an appointment. I'm afraid that whatever he says, she may come out of there with another set of casts Darby Livi 3/15/04 bi cf dbb 12/7 > > > > > > > > SO... Guest guest
Darby, I noticed the the doctors have Livi in the FAB 12 hour/day. I have had issues with what my doctor prescribes as brace time, so after our last two appts have written to Dr. P on the issue. Zoe is a few weeks older than Livi and started with the FAB at 2 months after 5 casts and a tenotomy. Dr. P has advised us to keep her in it for 16 hour/day until she walks and then down to 12-14 hours/day. Quote October 18, 2004 I would recommend Zoe wear the brace at night and naptime for a total of at least 16 hours a day. I don't know if I mentioned to you but on the web site www.global- help.org you can click on " Publications " and download a free copy of the booklet " Clubfoot: Ponseti Management " which contains good information. I.V.Ponseti, M.D. Unquote I see that Livi is cruising etc., but wonder if they have reduced her time to soon. Let us know how your appt goes. If her feet were fully corrected before and she did well with the FAB hopefully you can get back to that point again quickly! Louisa 6-27-99 Zoe 2-22-04 RCF FAB 16/7 > > SO... Guest guest
It's funny - Schamle did tell us to have her wear it night and nap time, but he didn't give us a number of hours. Unfortunately, she is not a very good napper and so we don't put it on during the day - we never know when we put her down for a nap if she'll scream for an hour or she'll be happy in her crib. Even if she did wear it for naps, she would only have it on for about 13-14 hours per day. So maybe thats part of the reason her feet are having issues.... hmm. She sleeps about 12 hours at night, and we used to have her keep her bar on until about 10 or 11am (she wakes up about 7am), but now that her foot has always slipped out of the shoe when she wakes up, we haven't been putting it back on. Our babies are only about 3 weeks apart - that's so cool! Darby > > Darby, > > I noticed the the doctors have Livi in the FAB 12 hour/day. Guest guest
Not long until they are the BIG 1! Naps and night is what they told me too, you can even see Dr. P says it, but then at least he gives the amount of time. Zoe is a cat napper and I could not imagine putting it on and taking it off everytime she napped. We put it on at 8pm and it comes off at noon. And I try to look at it from her standpoint too. At least when we take it off at noon she knows it will go on after bath. She gets around in it like crazy until 12pm. When she starts to walk we will do about 14 hours, although I am torn between 12-14. I would love to take it off when I dress her in the a.m. and be done with it until bed. We will see, from what I read here though, most say that 14 hours even when they walk. I would never hope for a regression, but if that's what it is, I do hope lack of brace wear is what is causing it so a couple of casts would hopefully recorrect and back in the brace. Keep us posted. Guest guest
I think you're right about seeing Dr. Mosca but I'm giving the other doc one more visit to see how I feel - it's kind of awkward since they are both in the same clinic - Dr. Mosca is his boss, I think, and he said I was in fine hands. As far as what the ankle capsule is, I tried looking it up on google but I still can't really picture it. I think it's some tissue that surrounds the ankle joint? Don't quote me on that one! Guest guest
I just want to add my 2 cents in. Anyone can tell you your in " fine hands " but I believe you need to feel it. I worked for a large ortho group here and nobody's feeling were hurt if the patient wanted to switch docs within the group. Different personalities relate better. You should go with your instinct. Guest guest
You know what? Thank you! Saying that gave me more confidence switching doctors. I'm still going to see the other one tomorrow, but if I don't feel ok, I will do it. Thank you for the confidence boost - I'm needing it at this point. Darby > > I just want to add my 2 cents in.
