Guest guest
Laurie, I could recommend a wonderful person who knows everything about nutrition, vitamins, minerals, the diet and all this linked to autism (through his own son and educational background). The only problem could be the distance; e-mail me privately if you are interested. Guest guest
When I posted about supplements I had absolutely no idea that some of you (all of you???) give your children that many supplements???????????? Is this last post the norm??? I am totally blown away, last I counted 12 different things????? How do you get a 6year old to take that many???? How do you know what is working and what isn't 'IF' you have them take so many?? I am not trying to be fresh, just absolutely out of my element! And that takes a lot for me. Please let me know what are the general supplements that the " AVERAGE " (HA!) child on a GF/CF diet takes. Thanks. Laurie Renke
Guest guest
Laurie, Breathe... It is pretty overwhelming...kinda sur-real actually. For us, our list is 14+ supps. My daughter is 2.6 years and has been gfcf+ for 4 months (we only began to suspect something was really wrong 5 months ago). We did all the testing at once and our doc helped us interpret the results and made the supplement schedule. The order of introduction is based on her needs. It has been a journey with the supps. We started in November and she had soooo many problems. One regression after another...now we've got it. Many thanks to the gang on the list and especially and . They know their stuff!! We learned along the way that Gillian had more sensitivities than just GFCF. We are soy, corn, yeast, dyes, artificial free. We do low sugar, avoid salycilates and phenols at all costs. Most of the reactions she was having were to corn and dyes and flavorings in the supps. Now that we've got that figured out, she's doing great. Keep in mind we take anywhere from 1 - 2 weeks to introduce a new supp, so it is a long journey. I anticipate to be up to " full throttle " mid March. I always start on a wed (if she has a reaction it will show by friday and it won't interfere with her therapy schedule for the week. I figured her pattern out after I spent many therapy sessions frustrating her, the therapists, etc) I start the first 2 days with a sprinkle and then build up to full dosage gradually a day at a time. If I notice she's a little wiggy or her stools change, I back off or lower a dosage. Here's our list: (most all are Kirkman's hypo line): PS - we do Nystatin for yeast too. Nuthera w/p5p Probiogold Vit c zinc DMG Co Q10 4 diff aminos cod liver oil flax seed Vit e calcium (had a prob wth this one a few weeks ago) and I know I'm missing something... I'm thinking about colostum too. Heard great things about it. Her test results were so scarey to me. To know how bad her insides were brought me to tears. She has responded great so far (now we're on a roll). Increased eye contact and interaction. She putting a few words together. She has started pulling me around to show me stuff and has even pointed at a thing or 2. She's much more focused, tuned in and happy. She looks better. No circles, better color. She sleep through the night (3weeks straight so far). She is healthier. It's all part of the puzzle. Keep at it a day at a time and it will all begin to make sense and eventually you'll begin to wonder how you ever ate before! Hope this helps. Just remember to keep breathing. in Chicago .. l Message----- To: GFCFKids ' GFCFKids > Date: Tuesday, February 13, 2001 9:51 PM Subject: Looking for Vitamin and Mineral experts out there!!!! > >When I posted about supplements I had absolutely no idea that some of you >(all of you???) give your children that many supplements???????????? > >Is this last post the norm??? Guest guest
Sorry to overwhelm you. The norm, if there is such a thing among such a diverse group of kids, is to start with a high B6 formula with magnesium. The common ones include SuperNuThera, Special Needs Formula, or Danplex. A common second choice would be DMG, and then perhaps flax oil or Cod Liver Oil. With CLO, you need to limit vit A from other sources, so that's where it begins to get complicated. We never add or change things less than 14 days apart. You watch for improvements or regressions, and go from there. We saw an improvement in eye contact and general attentiveness with SuperNuThera in less than a week, and we saw language improvements with DMG within 3 days. I think these 2 supplements are good places to start because they do seem to be helpful for a large proportion of our kids and the results are often clear and quick, making it easier for relatively inexperienced supplementers (ie parents) to see the effects. Plus they don't taste awful like some of the later ones. I highly recommend that you go to the Kirkman's website and do a lot of browsing and reading. It's very educational on the topic of supplements. www.kirkmanlabs.com > > When I posted about supplements I had absolutely no idea that some of you > (all of you???) give your children that many supplements???????????? > > Is this last post the norm???
