Guest guest
I weaned Kaitlin from co-sleeping when she was about 7-8 months old by putting her in her crib at about 2 am. I never woke her completely up when I did it. She was too asleep to complain too much, I would just hold my hand on her until she stopped her whimper- whine. She would wake up happy in the morning, just like from naps in her crib. Eventually after putting her in her crib earlier and earlier we were just able to skip the co-sleeping altogether. We still have to rock her till she is just about asleep though. Just in case you ever want your sleeping space back as gets bigger and pushes you out of the bed too much ;-) Freeman In a message dated 1/5/2005 6:17:07 P.M. Guest guest
OK - this is bad but when Darbi was about 3mo's old she started scooting across our king size bed (we co-sleep - no crib, no want one) and would fall off the bed onto the hardwood floor. Now, I told her ped about this. We installed a second bedrail and that helped but she still did it. I think she must have done it over 10 times. She's fine and the ped said babies don't get head injuries from falling off of beds (most times) and when people say the fell it's usually abuse. So he wasn't worried. But darn if I wasn't weirded out that my 3 mo old was falling off the bed all the time! This usually doesn't happen till babies are a little (lot!) older. doesn't have anything to do with cribs but it's still weird. That DBB sure gave her traction! Guest guest
I sleep just fine with her beside me. She sleeps on her back on either side and if she wants to nurse I just grab her and roll her over the top of me while I roll over and she goes right back to sleep. I've co-slept with all mine and I simply could NOT get up and out of bed in the middle of the night more than a few times before I turn into a bear. I get so much sleep co-sleeping that I have never been sleep deprived as a result of motherhood. I have to LIE when the kids are newborns (you know how people ask if you're getting any sleep - I just say *some*) because if I tell people that they get all upset because they had such a hard time lol. She doesn't hurt me with the DBB (I pad it, that really helps) and she sleeps all night long except for nursing. Even dh can snuggle right up with her and he doesn't mind at all. Loves it in fact. I do remember that my oldest used to roll up right behind my back and I couldn't move. I had my middle child, an infant on one side and him on the other and he'd wedge me right in there. That was frustrating - I will admit. But after a while he didn't do that anymore. They do leave the bed you know. I've co-slept with them all and the older two are sleeping together in a full size bed in their own room and have been for a couple of years (since Darbi was born). Doesn't mean there won't be a warm little body creeping into your bed in the wee hours of the morning but I still welcome that because I do miss them in there with me. Guest guest
I know for us Ava's bar is still relatively small, but I can tell that as it gets bigger it's going to be more crowded. We don't have much option right now though, we're in the middle of remodeling to make room for a 3rd baby (haha, she's 5 months), big brother is in the crib (coverted to a toddler bed) and at the moment there's no room for a big boy bed for him to open up the crib for Ava. So we just snuggle up & get knocked around by the bar (because I've been so busy making bar covers for everyone else, believe it or not Ava doesn't even have a nice one :-) ) , mommy of: Guinevere, on, Ava 8/4/04 right CF DBB 23/
Guest guest
I can't imagine sleeping with that many!!! On nights when one of my older kids is sick, they'll sometimes be in my bed, but DH usually goes out to the couch. I've co-slept with all 3, but I always say " Oh yeah, like they'll still be here when they're 10!!! " I guess she's making me rethink that assumption!! Guest guest
I always tell dh that if I ever died in my sleep so would the baby. I do know of a mom who died in the middle of the night, a LLL Leader here. And dh also never hears the babies cry but he's right up with the alarm that I don't even hear in the mornings - go figure - I think it's called selective deafness lol! The only time he ever does hear them is the rare occasion where they woke and wouldn't go back to seep. Sick or whatever, not happy and crying. I'm up for a long time with them because they won't sleep and THEN he gets woke a little and asks why I'm still in the room with a crying baby, he's not getting any sleep. ARGH!!!!! OK - I've taken all the kidlet waking hours, nursed them to sleep so he never gets woken up, he doesn't change diapers except the first few days/week that I can't move after surgical births and he's complaining about getting woken up once in a blue moon? I DON'T FEEL SORRY FOR HIM!! I've also slept with a 5 pound preemie and not rolled on him. I am very aware of my babies and they don't usually cry much but a little whimper before I can nurse them back to sleep. It totally works for me and I love, love, love snuggling up to them at night. It's like I'm getting my teddy bear fix as an adult and it's ok!! Kori 2:20 AM 1/6/2005, you wrote: > I too couldn't co sleep. Connor is a complete wriggle bum and won't be >still for 2 minutes. Guest guest
well, she'll find soon that there ain't enough room for 5 comfortably in no bed no matter how big lol. The 6 year old is going to have to take a hike :~} She'll figure it out. We got a King bed when I was pg with #2 and then both slept with us till Darbi was born. I kicked them both out when she came home though the 4 year old (he was 3 at the time) would come to our bed in the middle of the night. Which was ok. 4 in a king does work, 5 just makes for a sore back. Kori At 06:52 AM 1/6/2005, you wrote: >Dawn, > >That does sound like a good idea! Guest guest
well, she'll find soon that there ain't enough room for 5 comfortably in no bed no matter how big lol. Guest guest
You know... there are many places in a home for making babies :~} I've managed to conceive two with babes in the parental bed. We never get to be together alone in our bed and haven't for years and it's really not so bad if you're creative. Too bad it took us 3 years to realize we had a spare bed AND a hide-a-bed to choose from! The front room was our love nest for a long time lol Kori At 09:53 AM 1/6/2005, you wrote: >I can't imagine sleeping with that many!!! Guest guest
It is stories like that that make me worry. My friend has an 8 year old that will only sleep in her bed sporatically and they have one on the way. Oiy! I can't wait for this transition to happen. Guest guest
your dh and mine must be related. All except the diapers, he has only changed maybe 5 in the last 2 years.....Yes, he is a diaper whimp. He does not budge for a screaming child but if I just say his name once, he is up like a shot. It amazes me.... frogabog frogabog@...> wrote:I always tell dh that if I ever died in my sleep so would the baby.
