Guest guest
My DD is 18 months old and does not sleep well with the DBB. Her foot has great range of motion and the doctor is very happy with the correction and range it has. First off our summer was very rough with family death and illness and we were not consistent with the shoes and when we did use them she compained. I know now that it was a big mistake, but can not go back and redo it. The last month we have been very complaint and wearing shoes everynight except 2 when DH was gone (I can't get the shoes on by myself). She is in a bigger size shoe, we double checked the bar, any ideas. She ends up being up every 2 hours crying and yelling. After about 6 hours we tend to take them off so we can all sleep. The minute they are off she is sound asleep. Do we need to go to see the doctor (a days drive away) or let her cry it out so she know she has to wear them??? Any ideas would be appreciated. Guest guest
I think you should take her to see the doctor. In my opinion, if she cries everytime you put them on then they are causing her pain. If she is relapsing then a drive to the doctor is needed as soon as possible. Guest guest
Here are some ideas. It is possible that as your child is now 18 months old, that the distance between the shoes on the bar should be widened. The distance between the heels of the shoes should be approximately the width of the baby's shoulders. If as the baby has grown, the width has remained narrow, it becomes more uncomfortable for the child. I would also encourage you to review the 's Bracing Foot Abduction Brace section at http://pages.ivillage.com/ponseti_links/id9.html Try looking through the Bracing file at the different articles in the files section of the nosurgery4clubfoot web site at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/nosurgery4clubfoot/files/ And this site at Parentsplace at http://pages.ivillage.com/clubfootboard/clubfootlinks/id5.html > > My DD is 18 months old and does not sleep well with the DBB. Guest guest
I noticed Everett seemed to be whining/crying more at night ..... he does that a lot anyway, but on a hunch we measured his width a couple days ago and he needed spread out about 3/4 of an inch. The last two nights he has slept better. Question about measureing shoulder width.......are you all measuring from the very exterior edge of each shoulder around the child's back? I think that's how I saw Dr. Ponseti do it. s. Re: 18 month old problem with DBB Here are some ideas. Guest guest
Thank you all for your advice. I called Gillettes Childrens hospital and I am having my DD records faxed and see what the doctor says. I think I would feel better having the doctor take a look and make sure we don't have some regression with the foot and that is what is causing problems and also to check the shoes out or other options. Thank you again. > > My DD is 18 months old and does not sleep well with the DBB. Guest guest
If you're going to Gillette, you should try to hook up with our favorite " Cast Lady " who works there in the orthopaedic dept.! Her name is Beth Meyers and she has been a member of our board here for quite a few years and was instrumental in bringing the Ponseti method to the Mnpls/St. area! If you get the chance to meet her, give her a big hug for me! & (3-16-00) left clubfoot > > > > My DD is 18 months old and does not sleep well with the DBB.
