Guest guest
good morning! we were actually told by our ortho surgeon to put naomi on a mattress on the floor... she recommends this to all her patients who are having problems sleeping with the dbb in the crib. i wish naomi would still sleep in the crib, but the banging kept waking her up... now, she's been sleeping 13-14 hours per night!! yay! maureen naomi bcf dbb nights
Guest guest
I know all of the recommendations but Kelsey absolutely will not sleep in her crib anymore. I do have fear of her climbing out even with the DBB because she can still climb our stairs wearing the thing and she has been climbing on top of 's train table this week as well all with the bar. I know now why our first orthopedic doctor did not advocate the use of braces on the feet while kids are asleep. Because they cannot get in the natural position of relaxation that most of us get in when we sleep because their feet are always at an angle. Kelsey had a hard time sleeping last night because of them and I tell you I wanted to set fire to those shoes at 3:00 this morning. She deals with the shoes just fine during the day but boy does she hate them at night. If she makes it to age 4 without me destroying at least one pair of those shoes in my sleepy, cranky haze, it will be a miracle. Jenni Joanne Walton wrote: >Hi All, > >Just my 2 cents... Guest guest
Maureen, How old is Naomi?? Livi (in dbb) is 9.5 mos, but we are expecting another in May...I'm trying to figure out if it's worth buying a crib to convert into a toddler bed for her, or getting a second regular old crib. It's an interesting idea to put a mattress for her on the floor, but I wonder if at 14 months, she will be too young? Guest guest
Darby, My two daughters are 14 months apart. Neither have clubfeet, but I did put my oldest in a regular twin bed with side rails before my second came along. She did fine. And she was one of those kids who would sleep right up against the rails of the crib. Just thought I would throw my 2 cents in. Guest guest
hi darby! naomi is almost 11 months old. she's been on the mattress for the last month and it's made a big difference. it would have been nice to be able to 'contain' her with a crib (she comes out when she decides it's time to get up) but she's definitely sleeping better. we have body pillows around the mattress for a bit of a buffer so she doesn't fall off when she's sleeping. we did have a crib that turned into a toddler bed and into a daybed for our older daughter jenna and she wouldn't sleep in it either (she doesn't have cf and i have no clue why she hated the crib) so she sleeps with me (still). naomi doesn't like sleeping with anyone, she's quite the little bed hog. we thought that naomi would sleep in the crib and she did with the casts but as soon as she got her second bar, she just had a rough time (she was in a 12 inch bar - and now the dr has given me a requisite for the 14 inch so she would probably have a harder time with the longer bar)... maureen > > > > good morning! > > > > we were actually told by our ortho surgeon to put naomi on a > mattress > > on the floor... she recommends this to all her patients who are > having > > problems sleeping with the dbb in the crib. > > > > i wish naomi would still sleep in the crib, but the banging kept > > waking her up... now, she's been sleeping 13-14 hours per night!! > yay! > > > > maureen > > naomi bcf dbb nights
Guest guest
With our second coming - well, he's due Saturday we thought it was time for Zach to go into a " big boy bed " . If we didn't have another on the way, we would have kept him in the crib until he was 3 (he was 2 when we switched). We didn't have the problems you are experiencing though. I would say the switch would be okay. We bought two side rails - I think they are called " angel guard rails " , bought from Toys R Us. He is on a full size mattress on box springs only (no frame yet - that would have been too high off the ground) We do have the bed next to the wall, but did opt to purchase guard rails for the side that is against the wall as well. I don't know that it happens, but I was fearful that he would get somehow caught between the mattress and the wall and suffocate. One problem that we experienced for a few nights with the guard rails was that when Zach would flip over his bar would somehow get caught on the guard rail. He would pull and pull and pull and finally pull off his shoe (which we never had issues with in the past). Being a resourceful parent of a child with clubfoot (isn't that SO true that we have to be incredibly resourceful and clever?) I took his comforter and sort of folded it in half and laid it over the railing. Kind of hard to explain - anyway, it did the trick, he stopped getting his bar caught on the rail. Anyway, in answer to your question (am I long- winded or what?) I would say go for the change! (but I'd skip the toddler bed and opt for a twin or even a full) Holly Zachary 7/27/02 ALexander DUe: 1/8 > > > > good morning! > > > > we were actually told by our ortho surgeon to put naomi on a > mattress > > on the floor... she recommends this to all her patients who are > having > > problems sleeping with the dbb in the crib. > > > > i wish naomi would still sleep in the crib, but the banging kept > > waking her up... now, she's been sleeping 13-14 hours per night!! > yay! > > > > maureen > > naomi bcf dbb nights > > > > > >

Guest guest
My son went into his 'car bed' a couple of months ago, it is shaped like a car with a roof and so has small sides with doors in (which don't open). It is bigger than a cot but smaller than a single bed. It says up to age 4 and he is now nearly 21 months so I probably have a couple of years in this one. It was a very smooth transaction as he never slept too good in his cot and I think it was sides that woke him. He loves his bed now, goes off to sleep with no probs. He sleeps in a gro bag/sleeping bag still, but I will probably keep him in that for as long as poss as he just gets all caught up in covers and duvets with his foot brace on. Guest guest
- Well, I went to the doc today and there has been NO progress. Talk about a bummer. I don't put too much stock in that though, as I had a d/a on Zach's due date and there was no action - on my way home from the appointment went into labor and had Zach the following day. So who knows... My gut tells me this little guy is going to be late. I'm feeling great though, so I can't complain too much! Thanks for asking!
