Hi ,

Dewayne was on methadone and that didn't stop the pain either. We are not

worried about addiction either....only the depressed respiratory problems. DW

also takes 4500 mg of neurontin a day along with a bunch of other stuff. His

neurologist talked about a pain clinic but he is trying stuff with us and the

pulmonary doc for the central apnea. The two of them are scared that the pain

clinic wouldn't monitor his breathing enough. I just wish I could take the pain

for him....at least allow him some peace. He is not a complainer but this

constant toothache-like pain in all of his muscles gets too much for him. He

said the other day he understood why people ended their lives....that worried me

but he then followed that with....I still don't want to leave you all. Thanks

for your help.

experience with it? He is having quite a bit of breakthrough pain....Has

anyone used the duragesic patches? We are at a tough place....too much

narcotics and central apnea....it is quite a fine line there. Also our

little son who is showing many signs just had the bottom of his feet peel

off....he has cried about them itching so bad and one day I looked and found

the entire bottoms of both feet peeling.....sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks and have a good week ahead.

Have they thought of TENS, TM, acupuncture, or other alternative

methods for pain control? The pain sounds like lactic acid buildup

to me, that is, when I get that type of pain, I generally feel it's

similar to what I feel after a lot of exercise.

Is that a lot of neurontin, my uncle was on that, but switched to

Pamilor (sp?) because the Neurontin wasn't helping him. Neurontin is

in my doctor's " wait and see, but maybe later " list for meds for me.

I'm not sure if the Pamilor ended up being better, to be honest with

you. I have residual neuropathy on one side, and intermittent full

body neuropathy. It's funny (well, not really) to have one's lip and

side of face fall asleep (so far it's waken up again).

Take care,

RH

We've been told that it is toward the upper limits for Neurontin. Is the TENS

the pain machine like Jerry has? I have a brain lock going on and can't

think of what he called it....duh a pain machine:))) Does the side of your face

stay asleep long? That must feel so weird for you.

Bye now.

I used a TENS (transdermal Electrical Nerve Stimulation) unit after my

hysterectomy. They did a test setting before the surgery and applied the two

plates on either side of the incision under the dressing. I had a small box

to adjust the settings. I could increase them if I was going to walk or use

the restroom. The principal is that the brain gets tired of listening to the

stimulation and reduces that portion of the body's pain receptors. It was a

winner in my book. My hospital stay was shortened to about half what was

anticipated.
