Guest guest
My little one (5years old)has been potty training for several months and has been doing good with the pee-pee part but when she seemed to start holding # 2 she started going less and less (#2). For the last 3 weeks it has been ONCE a week and the 1st week was with a supossitory. the 2nd on her own and the 3rd suppository again. Plus the Doc has put her on a stool softener. Is this an autistic thing? When does this become dangerous? Any info or advice please. Send direct so we wont tie up GF/CF. Thank you Leonor
Guest guest
Dear Leonora, I would estimate that more than 2 days is dangerous in the sense that the stools inside the body are also excreting bad materials (poisons) to the system, there is headache, paleness, dizzyness ... all of us have had constipation to know the feeling. For our son, we used first suppositories but they hurt in a way and he totally refused. We have in the market kind of a soft plastic tube injection, which is injected inside and the bowel movement happens in 5-10 minutes. We used to give this every 2 days if he did not do by himself. Oral stool softener products did not work for us. The problem must be due to the bad microbiology which is part of the theory of autism and diet: yeast, bacteria, probably parasites, and non-existing good bacteria. For us, we have got real relief through the diet and Emgesan - a magnesium product, which makes the stool really loose in 1-2 days of intake. Perhaps you could find similar in the US, a nutritionist should know. Hang in there, Kati --- leonora ellison moe@...> wrote: For the last > 3 weeks it has been > ONCE a week and the 1st week was with a supossitory. > the 2nd on her own and > the 3rd suppository again. Guest guest
Hello Leonor, Boy, do I feel for you. We went through this with my son last year when he was 5. He'd been peeing in the toilet for years but had kept asking for a diaper to poop. We finally told him it was time to switch to the toilet. What a terrrible time. He did the withholding thing, too. My dr. (a regular ped., not an autism specialist) told me not to worry about it, healthwise. I worried anyway, but decided not to intervene with suppositories or anything. went a week without pooping and was practically green in the face. I won't go into the whole thing here, email me privately if you like. But the interesting thing is, when he finally had to poop so badly that he was willing to use the toilet, he pooped 5 times in two hours. And for several hours afterwards HE WAS ABSOLUTELY NORMAL good eye contact, affection, cooperation, good fine motor skills, EVERYTHING. I had been expressing my own colostrum for him during this time, so I know that is part of it, but somehow, the clearing out of the poop was part of it, too. Good luck and email privately if you wish. Guest guest
This is the first I've read of " expressing your own Colostrum " . What is the theory here? How do you go about doing this? Thanks Michele in Md > > My little one (5years old)has been potty training for several months > and has > > been doing good with the pee-pee part but when she seemed to start > holding # > > 2 she started going less and less (#2). Guest guest
Hi Michele, I had very little theory--just a gut feeling, so to speak. I was expecting my third child and my colostrum had just come in. This was before the diet, so there was no casein concern. I knew that colostrum is very good for the immune system (also, I believe it has a slight laxatice effect--I'm not sure about that but I think so--it helps newborns eliminate all their stored-up poop, their meconium) I thought it couldn't hurt and might have some positive effect. In considering expressing it for him, I bore in mind that in native cultures where long nursing is the norm, older children who are still on the breast while their mothers are pregnant do get a second round of colostrum for a few weeks or months (depending on when the woman's colostrum comes in to replace the milk). So, thinking that nature may have intended for children to get colostrum more than once in their lives, I decided to give it a try. It happened to coincide with the potty training (this was truly coincidence). Since my own colostrum is a thing of the past, I do now give Kirkman's casein-free colostrum. It helps him TREMENDOUSLY. I don't know exactly why, but I believe it may be because of (A) anti-fungal properties, ( high potency nutrition, and © IgA (something I don't know much about but have heard that colostrum is a good source of. IgA helps in lining the gut). Well, that's all. Betty - In GFCFKids@y..., cozmom2001@y... wrote: > This is the first I've read of " expressing your own Colostrum " . What > is the theory here?
