Guest guest
Hazelpone What I have found out just recently is that when I have extreme hunger it is the body yelling for more fuel in hopes of producing more energy. I have found that resting seems to achieve the same improvement as eating. I ran this by my MDA doc and he agreed. I'm sure that others have probably had different experiences as we have mito. laurie > Hello all, > > Just wondering if there is a common mito dx that deals with sore/inflamed > gums. I get extreme hunger sometimes, but it usually goes away even if I don't eat, lasting about 15 minutes to a half hour. I find that I get it when doing well with the Atkins diet. When I'm not sticking to the Atkins diet, I find that I get psychologically hungry, but not really hungry like painful. Water sometimes helps, but since my variety seems to go away, I put up with the pain and just eat on my normal schedule. I can't say that I've found a supplement to help this, but I wonder if it could be a blood sugar issue. Take care, RH
Guest guest
Yes, maybe that is it in my case as well. The extreme hunger episodes tend to occur when I'm driving or otherwise " busy " , so after I get home and rest up a bit, it may just resolve " on its own " . I have an upper respiratory infection (hopefully nothing worse than that), so haven't got much sleep lately, and maybe that is making my episodes worse... Guest guest
Thanks Laurie. I agree, but sometimes I am in the middle of running errands and need to finish, maybe an hour more, I wind up eating junk food for a quick pick-me-up. Hopefully the injectibles will help with that and I will rest when I am not running errands. Guest guest
Have you been to an endocrinologist (sorry if you've answered this already)? There are other endocrine things that could lead to continuous hunger (thyroid even?). I'm sure Gatorade has been mentioned, some people just can't tolerate it... Take care, RH > Hi RH, > > Thanks. Guest guest
Interesting that you have a thyroid condition managed by your family doctor, not an endocrinologist. As for many doctors, I'm down to about five I see regularly, have seen about thirty total. Unfortunately many doctors seems to be the rule for patients with mito, and looking for a new doctor based on a new specialty needed or a new doctor for an existing problem is par for the course. I don't recall mentioning Gatorade on this thread, but since it is a lot of " easy " carbs quickly, along with some electrolytes, it may give you a boost and alleviate some hunger. Another idea is that fat tends to make hunger go away more quickly than other food components, have you tried ice cream or other high fat foods - maybe a high fat candy bar? My aunt keeps peanut butter and cheese crackers (those horrible- looking orange things) in her purse to alleviate hunger when she is out for more than an hour or two. I hope your symptoms get better and you find an answer to what is going on.
